Texas Monthly: Watch out for Medina! She could win
Texas Monthly ^ | 10th Feb | Paul Burka

Posted on 02/10/2010 9:20:20 AM PST by takecontrol

I have been telling friends for a couple of weeks now that if Medina can raise $2 million by February 16 (the start of early voting), she will be governor. What this poll tells me is that Texans are sick and tired of Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchison and their career politician credentials and their negative campaigns. Medina is Sarah Palin with gravitas and without the winks.

And just what is that valuable experience that Perry has or that KBH has that is needed by the rest of us before we could possibly aspire to rise above our humble stations in life?

So, you need to be a career politician to know that we should slash spending, government pensions, and taxes? You need to be a career politician to know that the state’s power of eminent domain needs to be severely curtailed or that more money should not be given to the socialist failures who infest the education establishment and who are destroying the future of our children, culture, and economy? Or, perhaps you think that some really special experience is needed to know that government has no business mandating vaccines or creating “hate crimes”.

Many of the people on this board have more public policy knowledge and better judgment than Perry and KBH combined, and they would be able to make the RIGHT decisions on policy matters without breaking a sweat. So, I don’t care if Medina lacks that ever-so-special experience that White, Perry, and KBH have accumulated as conventional politicians. While there is no guarantee that Medina would be a transformative governor, the others guarantee continued decline, growth in government, and the usual blizzard of political organic fertilizer spewed through the media.

I’ll vote for Perry if I have to, but stop with the childish “experience” blather.

If she doesn’t, then even less so for Perry, KBH, and White. They are demonstrably far less qualified than the average FReeper.

Well, McCaul is my rep and he is mediocre at best. Not all that smart, not a leader - got his seat because he is the son-in-law of Lowry Mays and rounded up the RINO vote in Austin. Ted Poe, on the other hand, is rep I’d be proud to have represent me.

A piece of advice: Snarky little put-downs of Sarah will not attract support for your girl...

I’m sorry, but what exacrly has Medina accomplished in life, business and/or as a politician? If you can, be specific.

I would have more faith in her abilities if she started a little lower on the ladder and worked her way up.

Oh, I understand now. Just like George Bush did when he ran for governor?

Oh, please. Burka and the same people who brought us Perot are attempting to build Medina up so they can knock her down and hand the win to White.

Only this time it won't work. Nice try.

you don’t need any experience to be elected Governor or to congress or President. The founders didn’t write you need executive experience in the constitution did they?

1. She's a nurse.

2. She knows how to do medical billing.

We did “teabag” old Dogsh*t a few times, but he was always “unavailable” to speak with us—LOL!

George Bush did work his way up. He had years of executive level experience. Can you cite any executive level experience Medina has?

You need examples of the bad policies of the Perry administration? You think Bill White has done a bang-up job in Houston? Perhaps you like KBH’s vote with Obama on TARP?

Their malfeasance in office shows they are unqualified. Perhaps Medina would be no better than Perry or Hutchison, but I doubt it. In any event, I predict Perry will make it through, and while I don’t relish the prospect, at least he would be better than Bill White.

For pete’s sake. He had never before run for public office, and he turned out to be a pretty good governor. That was my point, which you deliberately misunderstood. I am picking up a lot of elitism and misogyny here.

Cut it out. Everyone knows Perry was originally a Democrat and said lots of things he later renounced. Just like Reagan did.

Interesting that you consistently work harder against Republicans than you do against Obama. Your Democrat slip is showing.

Well, Bush did run for congress in 1978, and lost.
