Hillary Clinton, as secretary of state, you should be working for the release of these folks NOW based on the testimony. They apparently did more good than your “Smart Power.”
The other shoe drops, seemingly. It looks like the scandal is about to go away.
But. I thought these were orphans? How do you get parental permission for an orphan?
From the article, “Parents of some of the children who 10 U.S. missionaries tried to take out of Haiti after its catastrophic earthquake told a judge Tuesday that they freely handed over their kids, the Americans’ lawyer said.”
The missionaries tried to take 33 children out of Haiti. These “parents” that testified....how many were there? How many of the 33 children were related to these parents? Also, did the missionaries have, or not have, the required paperwork for some, or all of these children?
It takes much more wisdom than compassion to really help people.
From the article, “The parents’ testimony means no law was broken and “we can’t talk any more about trafficking of human beings,” attorney Aviol Fleurant told reporters.”
From what I read in that article, only SOME of the parents said they gave permission. So how does that jive with what this attorney is saying? Just because SOME of the parents gave testimony doesn’t necessarily mean that “no law was broken” in the attempted taking of 33 children.
And before anyone gets all riled up at my question, I am NOT saying these folks were into child trafficking, etc. But it sure seems to me that someone did something wrong, or these folks wouldn’t be in the mess they’re in. And why hasn’t our government come to their aid?
Haitian parents willing to give away children does not make anyone interested in taking them able custodians.

Thank goodness. I’m glad to see that there has been a positive break on this matter. I hope the Christian folks are exonerated.
The Obama administration is still waiting for their executions.
Good to read, thanks.
So are these Americans now free?
Please ping me if you know or when you know the answer...not enough time to catch up on so much .....
thanks!
I’m gonna play devil’s advocate here.. Haiti is still a sovereign nation. They have laws there as well.
From the time the mainstream media started to press this non-story I had a suspicion it was just a witchhunt against Christians trying to save children from a hellhole. If these people were UN workers instead of American Baptist Christians it never would have been a story.
I have a problem with some missionaries.
go through the system in the soverign state that you are doing your work.....or stay out....
This has been vaguely touched on a few times, but skipped over a bit I think. If you are in Haiti and the parent or last surviving relative of a young girl (or even boy), the conditions are horrific. If you think the roaming bands are only looking for pretty adult women to rape and abuse, you are myopic at best. Who among us would not do everything we could to get our child out of that situation before our worst nightmares materialized before our very eyes??? This is not being taken advantage of during a time of crisis, this is an answer to prayer for the life and safety of a child.
It is much easier to navigate extreme situations if you are looking out for yourself alone. If you have others depending on you, it makes you much more vulnerable because it limits your choices. If those depending on you are children that you love and would give your life for, neither may have a chance in the kind of extreme circumstances that occur when civilization is just a memory -— the parent gives their life, and then the predators take the kids anyway.
