Do you suppose these RINO’s see the writing on the wall and are getting out while they can walk away with all that re-election money they have collected (stolen) over the past two years? This loophole has to be changed when we retake the government.

I think that state Senator Bill Hardiman is a possibility, and an intriguing one.

The 2/10 announcement will come a day after state Rep. Justin Amash (R) announced a primary challenge to Ehlers
...snip...
Besides Amash, a GOP source names state Sen. Bill Hardiman (R) as a potential candidate. Hardiman, an African-American, represents a Grand Rapids-based seat in the Legislature, and was former mayor of Kentwood.
If that is true, does that disturb anyone out there? It means for instance that those people who keep running (beyond reasonable term) are in it for the power. After all they are set for life, and given that they've made a lot of contacts in the initial years, and certainly may be corrupted in that duration, what else keeps them going other then the government power (and privilege)?
This is why we are for term limits. Not that it will fully solve corruption, but it will eradicate the power bases which oppress we who believe in work and decent values in a competitive world.
The federal government could easily be dismantled forty percent and we'd all be happier, or at least more fairly rewarded, based on productivity, not authoritarianism.
Who are the conservatives running for his seat?
Another Main Street loser gone.
Bill is well-liked in the GR area.
That’s an excellent question, I’m not sure at what point that kicks in. Ehlers has been in now for 16 years since the special to succeed Paul Henry, so I’m sure he’ll have a nice retirement nest egg. He just turned 76 on Saturday.
I know. My nephew is an Eagle Scout that lives in the area.
I’d go for Hardiman, no question about it. Ehlers is getting pretty old, that was probably the main (or only) reason for his retirement decision. Hardiman pushes for less bureaucracy, but recently couldn’t even get a few hundred grand to *study* some privatization proposals.
State Senator Bill Hardiman is the obvious choice to replace Ehlers. He’s a conservative Republican whose entire district is in the CD and who managed to be reelected in 2006 and 2008 in a district dominated by the city of Grand Rapids, the only Democrat-voting part of Ehlers’ CD. Hardiman is also term-limited in the state senate, so 2010 is the perfect time for him to run for Congress. And not only will Hardiman make a terrific conservative Congressman and will be able to hold the seat irrespective of what happens in 2011 redistricting, he will drive the Democrats and their medis cohorts batty due to the fact that he’s a black conservative elected from an overwhelmingly Dutch part of Michigan (although Grand Rapids does have a notable black minority).
We need to encourage Bill Hardiman to run and to support him in the primary and general. While I do not believe that the Democrats can win this CD in 2010, we can’t just mail it in, since McCain carried the district with only 51% in 2008 (President Bush had gotten around 60% in 2004).
Excellent. Vern’s voting record is not acceptable for one of the more Republican seats in MI. Who does he think he is, Gerald Ford? CQ politics says McCain won it by 2000 votes. Only the 2nd and the 10th were better better for him.
I’d bet on Colonel West winning in Florida and hopefully Les Phillip and others I may not be aware of but it would nice to have a virtual lock for a black Republican in a house election.
There are other names I'm looking to see in this primary. Some of them would be good. One would be more of a RINO than Ehlers.
