Drivers have also started a Facebook group called Toronto Transit Operators against public harassment, mainly in response to a video recorded by a passenger last week showing a bus driver taking an unscheduled 7-minute stop outside a doughnut shop to get his nightly coffee. The driver was subsequently suspended.
Another member of the group advises operators that if they see someone filming their actions, they should pull over and request police assistance: "You don't know why these people are recording your vehicle, you just know that they are not supposed to do it."
The TTC's general manager, Gary Webster, then issued a strongly worded letter to employees warning them of the obvious: In today's technologically savvy age, it's best to mind your manners in public.
Let's think about this. In the escalating war between passengers and TTC employees, the public will surely win, based on sheer numbers alone. Aren't TTC operators supposed to have both hands on the wheel? What are they going to use to film passengers' bad behaviour?
Enough with the cyber-battle. In an effort to help TTC passengers win the war, the National Post presents an abbreviated list reminding them how to be on their best behaviour during their commute.
1. Don't light the bus on fire. TTC drivers don't like that. Plus, there are video cameras on the buses....
2. Stand right, walk left. No one likes people who gum up the works. That includes TTC drivers, who are either trying to start their routes on time or on their way to get coffee. So when you're on those escalators, follow rules.
3. Do not attack drivers. This includes, but is not limited to, spitting, hitting, kicking, shooting, as well as stabbing with screwdrivers. It's just going to add fuel to the flames. Also, it's illegal....

Read the whole article at the link; the comments are good too.
I expect you guys and gals in Ontario should probably have some choice comments about this!
GEE even in Canada the people are getting a belly-full of these Union Bastards!
Public union goons everywhere do not like being held responsible...

Maybe all the drivers should quit.
Didya see the SF bus drivers, union of course, making $156,000 a year?
Over 10 of them????????
And we “wonder” why CA is going bankrupt????????
On the other hand, abusing public employment and the public arbitrarily and unnecessarily is intolerable. The Union position seems to be exploiting the incident to excuse abuses by public employees. Zero tolerance there, too.
We all must recognize that bus drivers need to eat, drink and have bathroom breaks; anyone who doesn't accept that is an idiot. However, one should be able to assume that the rules include provisions for all that, and for "emergencies." Drivers are human too.
I am curious to see what a full investigation reveals. Until then I am satisfied to just wait and see.
I agree, but have you seen the folks at the TTC? They are the prime example of folks who believe they are impervious to the public. Completely unaccountable.
Let me tell you, as a lifelong Torontonian, born and bred, these sons of b*tches are the most rude, abrasive union basturds you will ever come across. They treat customers like crap. The TTC is forever in a state of broken down operation. Daily delays and signal problems, train breakdowns, you name it, mostly during rush hour; leave hundreds of thousands of commuters late for work continuously. I can’t imagine the amount of man hours lost in productivity for commuters who are constantly late for work. The union has made the TTC the most badly run and inefficient operation in the world. They are complete and utter crap and they keep raising prices. The union members are spoiled, petulant brats who, if they weren’t a member of a union, would surely barely qualify as a road sweeper. Uneducated and dumb as posts, the lot of them.
There is no business like TTC business
Madison's highest paid city employee: bus driver earning $159,258
No, I didn't see that story about California bus drivers. Do you have a link?
