A single engine, two seat plane crashed into a restroom building near Mesa’s Red Mountain Multigenerational Center Sunday morning after the engine failed, according to a Mesa Fire spokesman.
There were no major injuries to the two men on board.
The pilot was able to land the plane about 8:35 a.m. in a desert area of Red Mountain Park. However, as he was taxiing, the pilot had to veer so he wouldn’t hit a man and his dog who were walking in the area, said Mesa Fire Department spokesman Thor Watson.
According to Watson, the plane, veered and crashed into a free-standing restroom building. The restroom was closed and locked, and no one was inside. The building has been closed for a while, possibly due to budget cuts.
The front of the plane went through the section of the restroom reserved for men and took out a wall and part of the roof.
The crash took off part of the right wing of the privately-owned plane, described as a World War II Chinese trainer, a Nanchang CJ-6A..
The unidentified passenger had paid to fly in the plane, which had taken off from Falcon Field.
The male pilot was not injured. The passenger hit his head and was taken to a hospital for minor head lacerations as a precaution.
When you gotta go...
Two seater, or a two holer??
That could have been a very crappy situation
What a crappy situation
Get outta my brain!!!!
I bet the people in the building had to change their shorts after that.
As a former pilot, I hereby declare this to be one shi**y landing.
In a related story, a World War II Chinese trainer, a Nanchang CJ-6A crashed in a cemetery near Paris. So far authorities have uncovered 130 dead.

Yikes, that’s a shame. Looks like a lot of time and money went into the restoration of that plane. I presume it’s an old Chinese warbird and not a new trainer...?
When ya gotta go Ya gotta go...
Isnt it an old Helicopter pilot saying?
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.
Hold muh beer... Pitstop time.
Any landing ya can .. uhh.. glad no one was injured to badly.
Don’t get all wee wee’d up over this.
Confusius say “Woman who fly upside down have.. uh, I’d better stop there”. ;-)
A shi’itey pilot flying shi’itey plane makes a shi’itey landing.
As a pilot, I was told that any landing you could walk away from was a good landing.
If you could re-use the airplane it was an excellent landing.
You should check out the Naval model of this plane, it can land on the poop deck.
