Has anyone heard any news of the State Department working to free the American Baptist Missionaries from prison in Haiti?
AOL reports that 8 of the Americans being held signed a note that was slipped out which states that they fear for their lives. This worries me greatly, given the history of Haiti.
Are you talking about the folks arrested for trying to take a group of children across the border into the Dominican Republic? If so, my understanding is that nine of the ten are claiming to basically be the stooges of the ringleader. She lead them to believe (falsely) that the paperwork was in order for the 33 children. Lord only knows what else she was covering up.
Are you referring to the group that was trying to smuggle kids out of the country?
The ones that were too "pure of cause" to need documentation?
Bet they wish they were less pure now.
You have to ask? No one from the US embassy was there for them throughout the whole process and beats me if Hillary was even asked about it.
Yes, Voice of Doh, the Big Guy has control over it all, in good times and bad. It rains on the just and the unjust.
Just as theres no reporting on the Notre Dame 88 either.
Good for Bill—at least he knows what will fly politically. Besides, this Silsby gal may be cooperative.
Part of the tag team, are you?
What do you have against these people? How much is Bambi paying you for this? Or are you doing it out of love of The Wun?
There is absolutely no indication that these Baptists were anything other than naive. Even the woman who led the group, who has acknowlegedly had a lot of failed business ventures (and what entrepeneur hasn’t?), has a long track record with Haiti - her father was a missionary who spent years doing dental work for free on Haitian kids and adults, and she has always had a connection with Haiti and it was logical for her to want to help.
Maybe what they trusted in too much, in fact, was the US government and the US people. Maybe they didn’t realize that Obama’s forces were going to be able to infiltrate FR and attack them here.
I think they have a plan to give Haiti $500 billion to release them. That’s each.
Thank you for that clarification.
Prayers for these (endangered) Christians continued.
Zero and Bubba are the tag team evidently - working to see that they never see the light of day again..,.,
The Wall Street Journal had a very good little article on them yesterday. They were certainly not up to anything criminal, and even the woman in charge, who has been demonized by the US press and certain posters here, appears to have been well meaning if inept, and certainly not criminal.
The shocking thing is that the US has not even sent a representative to their hearings, has not been in touch with them in any way, and obviously is offering them up to the voodoo gods of PC to distract from the pro-Obama Haitian government’s miserable handling of foreign aid in this disaster.
Am sure it has happened - but are ANY in our Congress going out front demanding the Obommunists set these Christians free????
I have been worried sick about these poor white missionaries, especially the women.
NO Americans should be held in Haitian prisons (hellholes) for something like this. And without representation from US attending hearings on their behalf, I am outraged! What can we do to bring this to attention of fellow Americans? Any suggestions on who to contact to get something going? I will call my congressman David Drier tomorrow, not sure if he can do anything, but it’s a start.
The more I read about this one, the more guilty the ringleader sounds. The others may be innocent victims. There is no doubt that the acts were illegal. And it looks like the leader, at least, knew that.
There's your answer.
There’s nothing conservative about hating Christians. Surely you’ve been here long enough to notice that the moles who hate Christians rarely post anything which conservatives could agree with.
You *really* should read up on Silsby before you defend her. In recent news, it turns out she also tried to abduct three children who were already in the legal adoption process, calling the adoptive parents at their home in the US and offering to take the children to the DR. She was told emphatically NO three times by the adoptive mother — the adoptive father was already down in Haiti picking up the children. But Silsby nevertheless showed up at the orphanage where the children had been staying, and announced she’d been sent by the adoptive mother to pick up the children. Fortunately, the adoptive father had already picked them up. She was planning to extort money from these parents while holding their legally adopted children hostage in her phony orphanage in the DR.
This woman is a career con artist. It doesn’t appear that any of the others except her sidekick Coulter had any evil intent, but Silsby and Coulter sure did (though they sure didn’t do ANY checking on Silsby’s background before running off on this crazy “mission” with her). That’s why the other EIGHT who are stuck in jail with her slipped a note to an NBC News producer yesterday, saying Silsby had lied to them and was trying to control the situation. They said they’re afraid for their lives. The people who trusted her and went down there with and are stuck in jail with are attacking her, but you’re defending her. That’s just weird.
US consular officials are never permitted to represent US citizens in foreign legal proceedings. You can howl at your congressman all you like but that isn’t going to change. This will be handled behind the scenes by people who know what they’re doing. In all likelihood, 8 or 9 of them will be released, and Silsby, and maybe Coulter as well, will stay behind to get what she/they richly deserve from the Haitian legal system.
Silsby is a career con artist. You really should do your research before wasting the time of your congressman’s staff. The whole country is well aware of this case, so there’s really no need for you to do anything to “bring this to attention of fellow Americans”. Fox News, CNN, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Idaho Statesman, and KTVB (Idaho), among others, have got this thoroughly covered.
