WASHINGTON A blizzard battered the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, with emergency crews struggling to keep pace with the heavy, wet snow that has piled up on roadways, toppled trees and left thousands without electricity.
Officials urged people to huddle at home and out of the way of emergency crews. Forecasters said the storm could be the biggest for the nation's capital in modern history.
A record 2 1/2 feet or more was predicted for Washington. As of early Saturday, 10 inches of snow was reported at the White House, while parts of Maryland and West Virginia were buried under more than 20 inches. Forecasters expected snowfall rates to increase, up to 2 inches per hour through Saturday morning.
Blizzard warnings were issued for the District of Columbia, Baltimore, parts of New Jersey and Delaware, and some areas west of the Chesapeake Bay.

If you don’t know if GW is real, then how can you preface your post “Heads up to all global warming deniers”?
We can’t be “deniers” if it isn’t real.
Virginia is not the globe.
I’m sure glad I bought my snowthrower before this one hit!
The big one that hit around Christmas delayed my purchase by several weeks.
Looks quite pleasent. I will be your way in April, I hope the forest is green and flowers are blooming by then. :^)
Here in sunny southern california we have had two days of liquid sunshine!
What goes down the coast usually comes back up the coast eventually. :-]
We usually head to the Oregon Coast in February every year because it is usually pretty pleasant. Great kiting weather...
Be safe folks!
DC wussies.
Wow! Here up nort’ in Wisconsin the most I’ve seen in my many decades in 21 inches. If Global Warming isn’t stopped it’ll be snowing in Miami soon.
Al Gore must be in town for another global warming conference.
I’m sorry I don’t know anything about that.
Really? Where’s a link? TIA
Blizzard in DC = hell freezing over?

During Katrina Walmart was pulling trucks into New Orleans while the MSM was saying the city was completely cut off... thank God for the people in private enterprise who keep the system working and the people fed. Thanks to people like you MNJohnnie.
‘There can be only one’, full size, real goron inside.
Re forbidden sliding on cardboard and flying saucers.
A friend tells me that in Meridian Hill Park (aka Malcolm X Park) in DC, large numbers of people were sliding on all sorts of things down a long flight of stairs from the upper level. They were using the above items as well as tire tubes, plastic storage box lids, plain old black trash bags, and even a Flexible Flyer. Hundreds of people in the park and not a law man in sight.
“How do we know the haven’t cooked the books on the storm story [re El Nino/warm Pacific??]”
If you are worried try googling something like Water Temperature Maps, summer 2009, NOAA, and similar. Also El Nino, causes of. I would myself, but after shoveling 3 sidewalks I am taking my old bones to bed.
“DC streets were planned that way to confuse invading troops.”
What I have heard was that the streets were planned so that cannon could shoot down them at the invading troops.
