The FBI is pressing Internet service providers to record which Web sites customers visit and retain those logs for two years, a requirement that law enforcement believes could help it in investigations of child pornography and other serious crimes.
FBI Director Robert Mueller supports storing Internet users' "origin and destination information," a bureau attorney said at a federal task force meeting on Thursday.
As far back as a 2006 speech, Mueller had called for data retention on the part of Internet providers, and emphasized the point two years later when explicitly asking Congress to enact a law making it mandatory. But it had not been clear before that the FBI was asking companies to begin to keep logs of what Web sites are visited, which few if any currently do.
The FBI is not alone in renewing its push for data retention. As CNET reported earlier this week, a survey of state computer crime investigators found them to be nearly unanimous in supporting the idea. Matt Dunn, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in the Department of Homeland Security, also expressed support for the idea during the task force meeting.
Greg Motta, the chief of the FBI's digital evidence section, said that the bureau was trying to preserve its existing ability to conduct criminal investigations. Federal regulations in place since at least 1986 require phone companies that offer toll service to "retain for a period of 18 months" records including "the name, address, and telephone number of the caller, telephone number called, date, time and length of the call."

Well, at least your FR information could only be siphoned by your ISP, which isn’t recording your login information.
However, a bad guy setting up a TOR exit port will have all sorts of juicy stuff to sniff through. And it’s possible that the country your information is going out is keeping much closer tabs on his internet connection than your local ISP would. You can’t know TOR, but you can your own setup or your own usage of a service like Anonymizer.com.
Use Skype in computer-to-computer mode and your chat, voice, and video are completely encrypted.
Guilty until proven innocent.
Proxy surfing here I come. Bite me jack boots.
Holy crap, I almost jumped out of my chair LMAO
And pretty much unconstitutional.
Bump for future.

If there is open talk about it, you know they are already doing it.
. . . . 'Bye for now; I'll be back tomorrow.
It can get ugly out there.
By the way, your files are also encrypted with Skype.
Am I the only one who gets hung when using google? I mean like it hangs up for several (sometimes up to 10 or 15) seconds before showing the search results?
bttt
I foresee the time when a foreign entity will launch a Telco Sat. into space and serve us with Internet, Telephone, and other our other needs. Then our Gov’t won’t be able to see or get jack squat!
That is a cluster *%$# nightmare. Do you know how many people log in and use neighbors wireless? They were using mine years ago when I first got it. I found out and changed it so it’s secure. They can’t use it without my password but I could log onto about 10 right now if I wanted to. Most are not secured by a password.
They already from criminals and even innocents so collect dna. no big deal right? hence why not remarks, comments, thoughts, fingerprints on keyboards, 8-?
and Heck, data storage is cheap these days.
Security the way some would ‘program’ it is not so cheap. ;-)
try this piece again.. oops
They already collect dna via blood samples from criminals and military so collecting your posted thoughts is not that much of a stretch for some.
FBI Director Robert Mueller and the rest of our government employees have mistakenly developed very twisted views of reality. We the People need to read all of them their rights - so they can all get their minds right.
The people are the only legitimate fountain of power, and it is from them that the constitutional charter, under which the several branches of government hold their power, is derived. James Madison
We have been way to lenient and trusting as Americans and look what happens. Our government employees are corrupted, cocky and take advantage of U.S.
The essence of Government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human hands, will ever be liable to abuse. —James Madison
We can no-longer let them out of our site. We the People do need a big brother mentality. Our big brother watching over everything our entrusted public servant leaders are doing. We must expand our checks and balances and more accountability must be implemented. We must raise much higher our standards of Honor, Moral Values, and Integrity in the hiring, vetting and voting posses of all our entrusted government workers. They must fully understand the responsibility and loyalty we command and know the privilege of serving and putting first and foremost the needs of We the People. If our standards are unsuitable, they can go elsewhere for work.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. —Benjamin Franklin
I value all my Freedoms and Liberties, our Great Constitution and our very important National Sovereignty. I am more than happy to take more risks in life to preserve my maximum share of Freedoms and Liberty. Our government officials need to back way off and respect the space and privacy of We the People. Government interferences and government in general have gotten way too big for their britches. We the People must drastically trim the fat and shrink what has now become a major liability and burden upon U.S.. This will also make it easier to keep our eyes on them.
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. —Thomas Jefferson
