[history]
A special NBC Black History Month lunch spread -- featuring fried chicken, collard greens and black-eyed peas -- sparked a commissary controversy yesterday, but the African-American chef who planned it doesn't understand the fuss.
"All I wanted to do was make a meal that everyone would enjoy -- and that I eat myself," NBC cook Leslie Calhoun told The Post last night.

I think a similar controversey occurred recently in Colorado in which a school district posted a similar menu for MLK day...

The menu is not racist - it’s typical southern black food. Are people offended if the have tacos on May 5th?

As a Southern white man, I'm sick to death of PC controversies such as this over food items that have been a part of our heritage for generations. I love fried chicken and I love watermelon, who the hell decided that race has anything to do with it??!!
It ain't a black or white thing, this is a Southern thing.

"Questlove, who I serve every day and who enjoys my food, requested the neck bone [cooked in] the black-eyed peas and fried chicken, then got off the line, saying, 'This is racist,' " she said. What a jerk. I guess he thinks it's hilarious to slander the lady who works hard to cook his food every day.

That meal sounds good to me!

This is stoooopid! The people that should be ashamed are the ones that were “offended”.

Love that show. I live in Alabama and several of my black colleages took me to one of the best soul food resturants in the area yesterday for my birthday. Menu: Fried catfish and chicken, collards, field peas, cornbread, etc.
This food thing is just ridiculous. What we whites call ‘country cookin’ is the same food as soul food down here. Hell, we all have heart disease, but I sure had a good time yesterday.
Like an old country fella told me once: “Southern cookin’ is the best in the world, but ‘hit’ll kill ya.”

Perhaps, and with any luck the Leftist inspired “Racist” crap will finally be dealt a death blow by the very people the Left have been brazenly using as a tool for their projects for so long.
It’s a nice dream, but Jackson and Sharpton, and their ilk will probably not let it happen. It’s their livlihood at stake.

Chittlins and collard greens too?
To: lovecraft
I have eaten plenty of this food, and it’s damned good.
To a rich white Yankee it might be racist , but to this down home country boy, it’s just food.

The most offensive part of this article is that Jimmie Fallon has his own television show.

Collard greens are tasteless compared to turnip greens. I had some turnip greens last night that had so much flavor I didn’t even reach for the pepper sauce.
