t's a great honor to stand before you as the new United States Senator from Massachusetts.
I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to many people, starting with my wife Gail, to Vice President Biden, to Senators Kerry and Kirk, to Leader McConnell, and to so many other people who have been generous with their time and their advice.
I especially want to thank the people of Massachusetts who sent me here. I can't promise I'll be right in every vote I make. I'm sure I'll make mistakes from time to time. But I will try to give them my level best every day.
My daughters Ayla and Arianna could not be here, but I felt their presence. The bibles I used for today's swearing-in belong to my daughters, and I stacked them one on top of the other and took my oath on them. So they were both with me in spirit.
People have asked me why I wanted to get sworn-in so quickly after the results had been certified. It's because I want to get to work.
There are a lot of votes pending that I would like to participate in.
Even more importantly, these are urgent times for our nation. The President this week submitted a $3.8 trillion budget. We'll have to borrow 40% of that amount because we don't have the money to pay for all that spending. I'm concerned we're living beyond our means. Also this week, the CIA director said there will be another al-Qaeda attack in the US in the next 3 to 6 months. This is frightening news, and we owe the people of America everything we can do to deter and prevent future attacks on our nation.
So I'm glad to be fully able to participate in the affairs our nation at this critical time.
I also want to extend my appreciation to all of you in the press. I see many familiar faces here and I want you to know how much I respect the work you do, and the patience and many kindnesses you have shown my family.
With that, I'll take a few questions.
states rights....if we had them in force abortion would be illegal in many states .....
look at the whole picture....
It's incrementalism, except in our direction, rather than theirs.
I think ultrasound has changed things. My guess is that half the states (northeast, north-central, and west coast) would legalize abortion 100%. The rest would have significant restrictions.
Inner anger expressed in vitriol is a losing strategy. Once the burn-out occurs, the flames burn bright and the vessel is toast. Some folks just don’t understand the Marxist long view of history. Unless and/or until the Left asks by deeds for a full out “war”, the combination of a scalpel and an axe will be needed to undo the damage they’ve done. Patience with the young man, he’s frustrated.
Check out potlatch’s post #64... ROTFL!
In Massachusetts, his beliefs make him a John Bircher, MORON.
Are you stupid enough to believe you could elect Richard Shelby in Massachusetts? Why, then, are you saying it's that or nothing?
You, of all people, should be calling no one stupid...and you sure as he!! shouldn't be giving political advice.
Those who consider every issue all or nothing shouldn't be surprised when they consistently end up with nothing...and shame on those who follow their counsel.
i'd point out the screaming fallacies but I am sure it's futile.
So you can go back to admiring that pinup of Sen Brown you have in your bedroom.
Thanks so much nutmeg!
Google "Useful Idiot." I doubt you'll recognize what you see, because denial is powerful.

You're acting out. That you aren't more used to being called out on your foolishness is really a tribute to the manners of those around you.
I'll address the one coherent part of your post...no, you weren't posting to me...but this is a political chat THREAD, not a chat ROOM. There is a difference.
Whether you choose to engage me or not is irrelevant. I'm addressing those who are reading your nonsense, letting them weigh both sides, and deciding if they want to end up in your political Jonestown.
Your choices are yours and you are free to them. I think you will find many are not willing to ignore the crazy uncle in the room anymore.
