Toyota USA says it is evaluating brake problems with the 2010 Prius gas-electric hybrid, but no decision has been made about a recall.
Company spokesman Brian Lyons says it's too soon to talk about a recall. He says the automaker is cooperating fully with a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration probe into the brake troubles.
The government is investigating reports that antilock brakes can fail momentarily on some 2010 Prius models in slippery conditions or on rough roads.
The company says it made a change in the 2010 braking system last month to correct cars in production. The company has not made a decision about cars on the road.
The U.S. government says it has received 124 reports from consumers about the Prius brakes, including four reports of crashes.

Here is the story Rush was talking about today about the Unions pressuring Toyota last week:

Me hopes the boy king gets hari kari from Japan.
I mean this is the same gun to the head ACORN/CRA community organizer crap they did to the banks. You lend to people who cannot repay loans or you get sued, you are a racist, Jesse Jackson will show up, etc etc. This is why our banks are broke.
Same crap. Same criminal behavior. Please some people here wake up. I am not a huge Toyo fan. I think the current Fords are outstanding. I would buy a Honda before Toyo but this is ALL BS.
This is the UAW breaking into non-union car plants in the USA to get the jobs they DESERVE cause they are the UAW.
GM and Chrysler are dead. Gone. Where will UAW “workers” find jobs? Non-union plants in right to work states. They need to be UAW plants run by UAW goons.
The rescuers who cut people out of wrecked cars or even to do bodywork have to be trained on where NOT to cut on a hybrid and how to disable the high voltage circuits (up to 288 volts in a Prius) because of danger of fire or electrocution. I still think of those videos of laptops bursting into flames, times a thousand.
Translation - Toyota better unionize American plants with UAW workers or else.
The UAW knows GM and Chrylers are dead - they killed them. These parasites need a new host fast.
Oh and if any GOP politician tries to defend Toyota - they will be smeared. This is brillant and criminal thuggery by the Chicago mob.
Poor Toyota. I have no love for them but this is just evil.
In this case, it’s Toyota saying they have a safety issue with the lefties’ “green” vehicle no less.
I wasn’t sure from the picture, but I thought that looked like mum.
Just update your gas throttle virus definitions when prompted and back up your brake pedal every now and then, and you'll be just fine.
I’m still driving a 1991 Camry wagon. I’ve been driving Toyotas since 1977. In my (and my husband’s) experience: Toyotas just do not die (and rarely break down).
This whole thing is beginning to look like a Chicago-style hit on Toyota - non-union, produictive, profitable Toyota.
“......Anyone educated today is bombarded with the leftist propaganda.”
......Which is why zero wants to induct college graduates into government service with the carrot and stick approach of promising to pay off their college loans. If that works, there will be a a much smaller number of educated people going into the private sector, which I firmly believe os the goal of that program.
I think it’s becoming clear that the administration is out to ruin Toyota - put them out of business. Toyota is almost completely non-union and they are profitable. I believe this is what many of those Andy Stearn - zero meetings at the White House were about: “If you can’t deliver the tax forgiveness on our union cadillac health plan, the take out our non-union competition through your media connections.”
I know a guy who used to be a commercial airline pilot who told me that on I believe the 757/767 series they land the planes with auto pilot every 150 landings or so just to make sure it’s working. Scared me to death, because every word of your post is correct. Anybody who doesn’t believe it should think about the last time they got a blue screen of death with Windows.
Regarding the bean counters - The story that sticks out in my mind is from a former foreman at a plant that used to make carbs back in the 80’s. He said that he was not allowed to reject a certrain amount of carbs for quality reasons. On questioning this, he was instructed that it was more cost efficient to have it dealt with as a service issue after the car sold. Yeah... returning your brand new car to the service department - now that’s a great customer experience.
Shhhhhhh! We need all the help we can get during in the 2010 midterm elections!
Since the Pious is the favorite greenmobile, it didn’t make sense that the media and government would be all over Toyota.
I was wondering what the real angle was on this issue.
I also thought that maybe things were being blown out of proportion.
I’m not a huge Toyota fan either, but I don’t want to see them go out of business or shut down US operations which do provide many jobs to American workers.
What about the 175 volt electric motor?
What about the 175 volt electric motor?
Apparently the Prius has had many other problems and the electromagnetic field problem has been basically ignored.
