The Saints Linebacker Who Speaks His Mind
New York Times ^ | February 3, 2010 | JOE LAPOINTE

New Orleans Saints linebacker Scott Fujita addresses hot-button issues the way he might meet an opposing running back: directly.

So Fujita was not shy Tuesday about entering two Super Bowl debates that have little to do with his team’s game Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

At issue are two Super Bowl television commercials, one about abortion, the other about gay rights.

The first ad — which will be shown on CBS — is an antiabortion message from Focus on the Family that includes Tim Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner from Florida.

The other ad — which was rejected by CBS — is for ManCrunch, a gay dating service. Fujita has spoken out before in favor of abortion rights and gay rights.

“It’s just me standing up for equal rights,” Fujita said. “It’s not that courageous to have an opinion if you think it’s the right thing and you believe it wholeheartedly.”

The Tebow ad suggests that Tebow’s mother was advised about having an abortion when she was pregnant with him, but chose instead to give birth.

The issue resonates with Fujita because he was adopted,

I'm searching my memory, but I can't recall Joe Lapointe (or anyone at the New York Times) writing a story about Curt Schilling in 2004, as he was actively campaigning for Bush's reelection and also leading the Red Sox to their first world championship in 80 years.

I wasn’t sure which team to root for until now. I liked Indianapolis because I like Tony Dungee and Peyton Manning. I like New Orleans because they’ve never been to a Super Bowl before. The Colts just won out.

"The first ad — which will be shown on CBS — is an antiabortion message from Focus on the Family that includes Tim Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner from Florida."

No bias in that characterization.

Must be nice to be the NYT, and be the arbiter of all things.

The NYet Times' Boston paper ran a similar story:

Solid backing by Saint, Fujita unafraid to support gay rights(Boston Globe ^ | February 3, 2010 | Adam Kilgore)

If ending "don't ask, don't tell" in the military is so important, how about ending "don't ask don't tell" in the media so we will know why homosexual activist stories are so important to those in the lavender mafia.

They must have given up the fight to censure the ad and have pivoted to the strategy of twisting their coverage of the issue to a slanted presentation/apology for the "abortion choicers" as the "good guys".

They know the impact that this ad will have and are shaking in their boots.

Well, based on this, and the unending hand-wringing over Katrina:

Go Colts!

Fujita is an idiot of the first order. He was also very outspoken on keeping Rush Limbaugh out of the NFL ownership club. I hope he gets embarrassed on the field on Sunday, as I’m sure his entire team will.

The Times and the News openly root against the Yanks, because of the Steinbrenner's support of Republican candidates.

I haven’t seen the ad, but I think it sounds fair to characterize it as “antiabortion.” No?

“There is a certain stigma that comes with being from Berkeley,” he said. “And I’m proud of that stigma.”

Nuff said.

He's going to be a proponent of whatever the Progressively-in causes of the moment are.

You think there’s no one on the Indianapolis team who is pro-abortion and pro-homo rights?

"fair" is in the eye of the beholder.

I prefer PRO-life.

It doesn't take any swipes at baby killers.

so we will know why homosexual activist stories are so important to those in the lavender mafia.

If you didn't read the entire story, you may not be aware of the fact that Fujita is a product of Cal Berkley. Anyone who claims that a Homsexual Indoctrination Agenda does not exist needs to explain why their most outspoken advocate in professional sports learned how to think in their capital city.
