GOP finds loophole in reconciliation ploy [Death of a thousand amendments to ObamaCare]
The Hill ^ | 2/3/10 | Alexander Bolton

As it turns out, Senate Democrats may not be able to force healthcare legislation through the chamber on a simple majority vote.

Republicans say they have found a loophole in the budget reconciliation process that could allow them to offer an indefinite number of amendments.

Though it has never been done, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) says he’s prepared to test the Senate’s stamina to block the Democrats from using the process to expedite changes to the healthcare bill.

I think the pubbies are looking for a loop hole that would allow this to go through but make the pubblies look like innocent victims.

I think you need to read a lot more and post less.

Scum! All of them! They ALL must go!

Yes Glenn Beck...I hear ya (actually I've tuned you out) time to quit drinking...again.

The Rs are virtually all in lockstep opposition to this...both houses of Congress.

What happens if they simply ignore the rules, ignore proposals for amendments, order a vote, and pass it?

Democrats like ignoring rules that don't suit them.

You might have it!

I just saw Sen. Gregg on MSNBC business say the same thing, that once the bill is passed it doesn't matter if they get it through reconciliation. The reconciliation process may just be cover for the more lib and less leftist Rats.

Yes that is why Obamacare was voted out of committee because of strong Rs. That is why the Senate Majority Leader is already rolling over and campaigning on repealing this bill instead of working to stop it. Lockstep indeed.

To assist the GOP in this important endeavor, I, the non-Senator from Western NY, rise in favor of the following amendments...

Here's another one: the pay of Federal employees shall be indexed to the average pay in the private sector. Since Federal pay is about 50% higher today, we'll start with a Federal salary freeze of indefinite length.

Amen to that! I’m OK with a premium paid for outstanding contribution or highly specialized skills. Short of that, don’t believe there’s anything about working for Uncle Sam that demands higher pay, a pension, and for many a union to back them up.
