I liked that idea in the german cars to cut accelerator power when you hit the brake.
I didn’t know that pumping your brakes could disable them. But he never mentioned that you still have the manual parking brake, which will help some.
I do worry about all the electronics getting in the way of just driving the car.
Interesting discussion about the problem with turning off the Lexus but there’s one small problem ... IT ISN’T A CAMRY, IT ISN’T BEING RECALLED. As far as I can tell, there were no deaths attributed to the recalled accelerator part on the Camry. This is Apples and Oranges. Why, it is almost like the stories are being mixed on purpose. I smell a great big UAW rat here. And LaHood should STFU.
Loose carpet accordions up under the brake pedal but over the accelerator is one mode that quickly comes to mind.
I guess. But according to the youtube video test, it turns out you CAN disable your brakes if you pump them too much while they are under stress — which seems like a very bad design feature.
I’ve used my emergency brake to slow down and stop when my brakes have gone out, but I have no idea how it would work if your car was accelerating out of control. Like you said, he never mentioned it as an option.
Now LaHood is saying he misspoke on the advice he gave to Toyota owners. This administration is full of losers. Have they ever been able to do or say anything without having to come out later and correct, or explain their earlier comments or actions?
Sickening prick bastards.
God forgive me.
Brake fade has been around for a long, long time. “Trucks, use lower gear” Materials technology has improved the situation, perhaps to the point where people just aren’t being taught what they need to know about emergency situations. Too much faith in the technology and the lawyer.
“Toyota apologized Saturday for faulty gas pedals on four million vehicles just recalled. When you press the pedal down it stays down and the car accelerates out of control. Whoever designed the gas pedal should be fired and made Treasury Secretary.”
