N1H1 scare, another United Nations Leftist hoax? The numbers say absolutely
The Collins Report ^ | February 3, 2010 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

Remember the dire predictions of 50, 000,000 worldwide swine flu deaths? One year later that prediction made by the World Health Organization (WHO) has been proved to be just another United Nations hoax like the melting Alps. It fell short by 49,985,858 deaths.

Now in hard Left “We know better than you” style, the WHO attacked as “irresponsible” those who have called its claim fraudulent.

WHO claimed everything pointed to a worldwide pandemic outbreak of N1H1 influenza and it denied allegations of being influenced to make this claim by powerful pharmaceutical companies. In October the AP found that 75% of Americans were worried about the virus.

There is ample evidence that Big Pharmaceuticals benefited from mega orders for vaccines and anti-viral medications. Nevertheless, the WHO itself says that each year “annual [ common influenza] epidemics result in about three to five million cases of severe illness, and about 250 000 to 500 000 deaths.” If we’re to believe these people at all we have to consider the possibility that this flu season was a one to celebrate in terms of the very low number of deaths.

Numbers that don’t wash

If the WHO had predicted 50 million deaths and there were 14.4 million, fairness dictates it be credited for saving lives with its warning. If there were 1.4 million deaths you would have say, “You were a bit overboard but 1.4 million is still a lot of deaths from anything.” If there were 140K deaths red spinning lights start to shine, but with just 14k deaths the only conclusion is that WHO is just another lying sack of dung UN operation that reminds us we should steer clear of the United Nations as best we can: They are socialists who lie to get what they want which is our money.

On the other side of the ledger, you can look at President Bush and his attempt to rid Iraq of WMD.

Our intelligence agencies said they were there.
The British said they were there.
The UN said they were there.
Bill Clinton said they were there.
Al Gore said they were there.
Heck, Saddam Hussein said they were there.

We went in, and apparently they weren't there. The Left's conclusion: George Bush is a low-down dirty liar.

Well, I don't think that's at all fair -- but if that's how the game is played, then clearly the UN lied to us.

This didn’t pass the smell test from early on. Why should we believe anything the UN has to say?

“Didn’t pass the smell test...”

You’ve got that right. When a real outbreak comes, we’ll know it. There will be no question. People will be dying in droves and entire communities will be quarantined.

A case of the sniffles and nausea doesn’t add up.

The truth is that the UN physically tagged stockpiles for destruction in 1998. When inspectors went back in they said, “OK, where is lot 468b?” No one could say where it was, or where it was destroyed if that was the case.

So they WERE there, but no one has been able to say for certain where they WENT.

That’s the real concern around not finding WMDs. I can’t believe the left doesn’t see that.

Pervasive in our society is fear of the unlikely and acceptance of the likely. We accept 40,000 deaths from the common flu and other common illness, but not from scares that are given uncommon names.

The same is true of traffic deaths and gun deaths and many other scares.

FREEDOM TO CHOOSE is the difference. When a drug company tries to scare me with its ads on TV I have the freedom to buy their scare and their product ... or not. Only those who buy their product have to pay for their scare ads.

But when world government (or any other government) steals money out of my pocket and forces me to pay for the scare ads, and pay for products and procedures based on that scare, then it takes away my freedom to choose.

The voluntary for-profit companies are careful to protect their credibility and not go too far. They learned from Johnson&Johnson’s response to the Tylenol scare that credibility is profitable.

Government is inherenently arrogant and has no incentive to be concerned about credibility. Power corrupts. And thus it attracts people who are corrupt and power hungry.

If the whole thing had happened under Obama, the Left would see it just fine. Have you noticed that they don’t whine anymore about the Patriot Act? Under Obama, it’s fine. No more calling Afghanistan a “quagmire”? Under Obama, it’s fine. No more complaining about the sky-rocketing deficit? Under Obama, it’s fine. I could go on.

What are then these 500 metric tons Saddam's yellowcakes?

Defense Personnel Transport Uranium Ore Out of Iraq

By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, July 7, 2008 – Defense personnel have completed the transfer of 550 metric tons of Iraqi uranium ore to Canada, Defense officials said here today.

The Iraqi government asked the United States to help transfer the yellowcake -- as the ore is known -- from Tuwaitha Nuclear Research Center near Baghdad to its buyer in Canada, Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said today.

The military dubbed the movement Operation McCall, and it ended July 5. DoD’s portion of the operation involved the transfer of the ore.

Yellowcake is a uranium ore that can be processed to become nuclear fuel. State and Energy Department personnel also participated in the transfer.

Officials transferred the uranium by convoy from Tuwaitha nuclear research facility to a secure location in Baghdad’s International Zone, Whitman said. The ore was in 110 shipping containers. The shipping containers were placed aboard Air Force C-17 Globemaster III airlifters and taken to an intermediate location. It took 37 sorties to transfer the yellowcake.

At the intermediate location -- which Whitman could not name -- the ore was loaded aboard the SS Gopher State, a Military Sealift Command ship, which took it to Montreal.

“This was material that was discovered when we initially went in to Tuwaitha,” Whitman said. “It was under the control of the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency since that time.”

Whitman stressed that yellowcake is not of direct use in a nuclear weapon. “It is a commodity that is traded routinely in the global nuclear energy sector,” he said. “It can be used as a feed material for nuclear weapons if a country has access to the necessary fuel technology.”

The cost of the transfer was $70 million, and the government of Iraq will reimburse the United States for a portion of the cost, Whitman said.

Thanks to both of you. I see that I could have phrased my comment better. I have always known that Saddam had a variety of WMD. He had them. He used them. The UN verified their presence.

When we arrived on the scene and the WMD were suddenly "gone" the Left came to the conclusion that they never existed and George Bush was a liar. A totally preposterous position, but one which the media pushed for years.

I'm just saying that if the new standard is "things didn't turn out as you said they would, therefore you are a liar", then the UN is in a lot of trouble.

The left is hoarse from crying wolf about everything from global warming to Christinas, pandemics and militias. What they refuse to acknowledge is the danger from terrorism and fascists, who will be our undoing.

After months of fear mongering and dire warning of pandemic didn’t manifest in towering piles of rotting corpses and football field sized mass graves, it was safe to assume that H1N1 was just a little less virulent than the experts were suggesting.

If the u.n. has any hand or voice in a situation, you can assume with complete confidence there are lies involved.
