There was, and I think another poster was on to something when he said he thought there was an organized “astroturf” campaign against the device. Microsoft, for instance, would like nothing better than to see Apple fail at something - it hasn’t done that in quite a while. ;-)
Regardless, I think the iPad will be a success in the longer term. At first people said Apple wouldn’t succeed with the iPod, it was “just another music player”. Then it was the iPhone - “Apple doesn’t know anything about the mobile phone business”. The iPad looks to me to be a killer device for reading, watching movies, and playing games. That’s a nice, big sweet spot. You can bet the next version will address some of the complaints folks have with this first effort...but I’m betting the name won’t change.
Of course, you know that the advancement of non-white cultures was suppressed by the imperialism and oppression of the cultures dominated by white men...

I agree this was not my first thought about the name. Mostly I thought “wonder how many usb ports it has?” LOL I don’t really like using built in keyboard so need two one for keyboard and one or hub. :)

Quite some time ago they figured they owned the language, and from there the thought, and from there the society. And, to be fair, they got quite a bit of political leverage out of it. But that sort of thing is seldom permanent - language has trends and fads, and power based exclusively on it is very evanescent. Sorry, Susan, you're about twenty years out of date and fading fast.

I’m dissapointed in this product.
I want the ability to install apps that I want to choose, not apps controlled by Apple, and I want Flash, multi-tasking and a camera.
When it comes out with those features I’ll buy it, but not ‘til then.
It doesn’t make sense to not install Flash when so much video and games are written in Flash, which, of course, is the point...Jobs want all games and videos to come through Apple, at his control, and with him getting a cut of the proceeds.
I hope Google comes out with a Chrome tablet that offers those features, I’d buy it in a New York Minute!

WHAT?? What an idiot! I am offended by the ‘i’ part, myself. Just because it reminds me of Obama. I think I will sue.
Maybe when Adobe fixes all of the memory leaks in Flash, then Apple will reconsider.

I thought the obvious name would be the iTAB, but that is too obvious and straightforward for these dolts.
Is there not a man in America who sees Susan Estrich and then immediately associates her name with the similar-sounding ‘estrogen’? I didn’t think so, either.
That aside they seem to know how to make products that people buy.
