WASHINGTON — America’s top intelligence official told lawmakers on Tuesday that he was “highly certain” that Al Qaeda or one of its affiliates would attempt a large-scale attack on American soil within the next six months. The assessment by Dennis C. Blair, the director of national intelligence, was much starker than his view last year, when he emphasized the considerable progress in the campaign to debilitate Al Qaeda and said that the global economic meltdown, rather than the prospect of a major terrorist attack, was the “primary near-term security concern of the United States.”
Citing a recent wave of terrorist plots, including the failed Dec. 25 attempt to blow up an airliner as it approached Detroit, Mr. Blair and other intelligence officials told a Senate panel that Al Qaeda had adjusted its tactics to more effectively strike American targets domestically and abroad.
“The biggest threat is not so much that we face an attack like 9/11,” said Leon E. Panetta, the C.I.A. director. “It is that Al Qaeda is adapting its methods in ways that oftentimes make it difficult to detect.”

He’s right. Attacks on major US cities will cause wide spread panic and breakdown. Think Katrina. The most reptilian behaviors will take over in quite a few people, as they will use this as their opportunity to ‘get theirs’.

Most sheep can bitch and moan about the evil Republicans and torture in public, but I still remember the huge sigh of relief that everyone I came across expressed that it was Bush, and especially Chaney, that was going to be responsible for dealing with things right after 9/11.
Any attack on the country now is gong to be 100% the blame of this administration and the cuts they made. People see Holder and the trial fiasco, the Mirandizing of the crotch bomber and understand that this administration is just not as serious as a Republican administration would be on their safety.
I pray we catch them beforehand and I would never put politics above my children’s safety, but there will be an avalanche of poop falling (finally) directly where it belongs now if it does and we fail to catch it.

I find it hard to believe that even our Federal government would be so incompetent as to miss a plane bomber after he was named by his parents, and denied entry into the UK.
