WASHINGTON Americas top intelligence official told lawmakers on Tuesday that he was highly certain that Al Qaeda or one of its affiliates would attempt a large-scale attack on American soil within the next six months. The assessment by Dennis C. Blair, the director of national intelligence, was much starker than his view last year, when he emphasized the considerable progress in the campaign to debilitate Al Qaeda and said that the global economic meltdown, rather than the prospect of a major terrorist attack, was the primary near-term security concern of the United States.
Citing a recent wave of terrorist plots, including the failed Dec. 25 attempt to blow up an airliner as it approached Detroit, Mr. Blair and other intelligence officials told a Senate panel that Al Qaeda had adjusted its tactics to more effectively strike American targets domestically and abroad.
The biggest threat is not so much that we face an attack like 9/11, said Leon E. Panetta, the C.I.A. director. It is that Al Qaeda is adapting its methods in ways that oftentimes make it difficult to detect.

At least one viable self defense handgun for every adult and sensible youth.
500 rounds of ammo for each pistol.
At least one self defense shotgun for the home, but two would be better. Get a remington 870 or a Mossberg 500 or a 590. Have at least 100-200 rounds of buckshot and rifled slugs for those scatterguns. I have 20 boxes of shotgun shells...I think.
I’d have at least one self defense rifle..it all depends on what you can handle caliber wise as to what kind you buy.
You cant go wrong with at least an SKS, and it’s legal in every state, I think.
I also have an Olympic Arms M4 Carbine, which is a fancy name for an AR-15 in 5.56 caliber. Its also known in some circles as 223 Remington.
I have 18 rifle magazines. Dont scrimp and buy cheap mags. Get the ones made by H&K, or Brownells or Magpul. The Magpul ones are also called P-MAGS. I mostly have 20 rounders mostly because it works better for me, but you can also get reliable 30 rounders. The Colt magazines are also good.
Get good ammo and enough of it.
If you have a good 22 rifle you can afford to practice more. I have a ruger 1022 that works flawlessly and Im sure I could ruin a Hajjis day with it if I had too.
Whatever guns you get, find a knowledgable teacher and get some instruction. There are far too many people out there with a pistol loaded in their dresser drawer who dont even know how to unload it.
If it hits the fan, make sure you take care of your family first. You WILL likely be on your own for a week at least, depending on the circumstances of the attack.
LOL. I have duct tape. Perhaps the govt can protect us without causing panic?
Yeah, they read “One second after”
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
Have on hand three days’ worth of water and food, an emergency supply kit for both home and automobile, radios with extra batteries, and plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal windows and doors
Make a plan for contacting family members in an emergency
Learn about different types of attacks so you will know what to do in an emergency
Do not cancel events or travel plans
Be especially aware of your surroundings and the events happening around you

Aren’t they jumping to conclusions? Isn’t this profiling? Someone should tell BO/BS!
One thing is for sure, any attack will be blamed on G. W. Bush. Somehow or someway, the BO Admn. will find a way, with the help of the State-run media, to blame Bush.
He's going to have trouble getting me to believe either one of those things. That said, however, I think you're right. People have expressed concern about his complete lack of interest in protecting the US, and obviously his handlers feel it's necessary to put on a show now.
Very true.
All the more reason to immediately prohibit Muslims from traveling to the US, and for suspending the visas of those who are here, and sending them home. The ones who we have mistakenly and dangerously given the right to stay here will be easier to keep an eye on if their brethren go home. They constitute a huge risk. We are stupidly tempting fate by continuing to allow these people to enter our country.
There’s no doubt an attack is iminent. Obama and that jack ass Nopolitano have left us weak and vulnerable. My only hope are those that lose their lives in what evere dreadful attack is pulled off are only Obama voters who continue to stand by him and support him. They should be the ones to pay the price of his failure. Not innocent children or people who are well aware that Obama is fraud and a crook.
The response to the terror threat is easy. Make sure the world knows that that any attack on the United States will be followed by a string of C-5 transport planes bombing Mecca with pig guts. That would show them that the one they pray to is not able to protect them or Allah is punishing them for their actions. You have to react to their barbaric ways with the same actions.
“Seven Days in May” should be required reading.
Ok....why FLOAT the story and NOT raise the alert level?
If we are in danger? Give us specifics to look out for and RAISE THE ALERT LEVEL!
OPINION:
Thank you for the tips...but jihadis seem to favor crowd situations: public transportation, malls, stadiums, etc.
Swine flu?
Good point!
So we’re still not calling Ft. Hood a successful attack?
Haven’t the Islamic Supremacists heard it’s racist to come out against this administration?
Didn’t they see him bow to the Saudis, pal around with Hugo Chavez, and trash talk this nation’s history?
What more do they want?
He’s even suspended the war on terror. Islamic terrorism is no longer a war crime or a crime against the state. Now it is just an ordinary crime.
