Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid chided President Barack Obama Tuesday for making Las Vegas a poster child for excessive spending.
I just spoke to the White House and told them that while the president is correct that people saving for college need to be fiscally responsible, the president needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money, Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, said in a statement.
Speaking about government spending at a New Hampshire town hall earlier today, Obama said when times are tough, you tighten your belts.
He added: You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college.
Last year, Obama drew criticism from Nevada politicians for criticizing junkets to Las Vegas by bailed-out banks and Reids political opponents accused him for not taking a tough enough line against the president.
But on Tuesday, Reid responded with a swift criticism of the presidents comments.
"Nevada is the nation's top destination for tourism and conventions, Reid said in a statement. It is more popular than any other place in the country, and for good reason: It's affordable, easy to get to from anywhere, and the weather is perfect.
LOL! It all depends on whose ox is gored...
Las Vegas is a filthy sewer.
No love for Zero or Dingy in Vegas. They’ve been very very bad for business and the “boys” aren’t happy.
Dingy seeing 2010 his election chances evaporating.
You don’t blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you’re trying to save for college.
But you can spend your way out of a recession with
money you don’t really have.
At least in Vegas they have buffets.
I would bet that Harry doesn’t even run.
Imagine the reception O will receive when he visits Vegas to help ole Harry campaign.
Gotta love it!
Doesn’t bother me either way. The town is a cesspool. If you like having porn ads shoved in your face by illegal immigrants everywhere you turn, it’s a great place. Wouldn’t bother me if the whole place burned down and wasn’t rebuilt. What a craphole.
“”Obama said when times are tough, you tighten your belts.””
You write that line into a proposal for a novel and you’d be laughed at and spat upon. Less than fiction. What a charlatan.
Methinks Reid's political career is swirling the bowl...Obama’s will follow suit.
I love it.
In Vegas, if you gamble your life savings on a hand of blackjack, you only have a 50.42% chance of losing everything.
Pathetic are they not?

President Obama: What business is this of yours? And what hypocrisy! Times are tough, so you and Congress push us farther into debts by trillions of dollars instead of cutting spending and laying off a bunch of government workers.
I wonder what odds the Vegas bookmakers are giving that Dingy announces he won’t run again. He sounds about as popular in NV as Dodd was here in CT.
I agree, Vegas is a sewer. I first went there in the mid-70’s and it was a great place. Since the unions have taken over from the mob it’s went to crap.
Reid’s got no imagination in his retorts.
He could have responded with:
“I’ll bet some fund managers on Wall Street would disagree with the President. At least gambling in Nevada is regulated. If you win a bet in Vegas, you double your money. The odds are POSTED in Vegas.
Follow the rules, read the prospectus, and make what you think is an informed investment decision on Wall Street, and you can lose your entire portfolio due to some hedge fund manager overextending himself on CDS swaps.”

Reid says the weather is perfect?
He might as well say it’s healthy too since you have to run from casino to casino before the bottoms of your shoes burn off.
