I would like to believe that Barack Obama saw all of his present advantages coming. It would be thrilling to believe that his brain was part crystal ball and had every move already in place. In order for that to be true, Obama would have played himself as a sucker so hypnotized by the grand ideal of bipartisan cooperation in the interest of a country caught in the most sweeping crisis since the 1930s.
The elephants felt that Obama was such a punk when the fighting actually started that they had the confidence to prove themselves no more than the drooling lap dogs of corporations and rapacious health care providers.
I do not believe that is what happened. It seems to me that he woke up before it was too late.
The elephants felt on the verge of a stampede after Bush left office with such a low approval rating. But they began to figure a way out of their trouble. That trouble was turned into even greater public animosity by the impact of our financial institutions on Main Street and on the world at large.
Coming from what looked like no strategy at all, they began to score some unexpectedly successful blows, almost all of them based in lies, exaggerations and such irresponsible statements that Chuck Scarborough had to call for the barn doors to be closed before every Republican loon in the country got to a microphone and proved superstition was still as strong as it had ever been in certain camps.
I do believe that the President made it clear in his State of the Union address that the gloves are coming off, and he's ready to slap the Republicans red in the face, crack their tusks and take them all the way down to their favorite place in the mud.
Those who have been disappointed with the President must now feel that he is experiencing the charge coming from his Wheaties. That eloquence arrived with the sort of strength that we all love to hear in the United States because we have become tired of politicians who sound like they are reading ad copy for garbage fast food.
The State of the Union seemed much better than it had been for months because Obama publicly declared war on so many of the things that we are all tired of and done with, through and through.
Regulations need to be put back in place to avoid a repeat of the troubles coming from "casino capitalism" - a name for the low-down and dirty dealings of irresponsible bankers and financial institutions.
We have to look out for the air, the land and the water. The Chinese, like all other Marxists, have proven to us that they are not to be trusted with the public interest. But now they are tempted as much by money as they have always been tempted by power to the tune of millions slaughtered in order to maintain ideological continuity.
Seasoned Western capitalists know that if you refuse to regulate how money moves and how it is made, the devious and the irresponsible gain influential strength and may well take everything down with them. After all, slavery was highly profitable and would still be going on if it were not illegal.
Obama has begun to take the fight to the opponent and we may soon see Republicans flying through the ropes. They won't remain where they land, however.
They will be back. We do not live in heaven and we have to face the swinish history of the Democrats themselves. It is quite American to remain suspicious of all political persuasions.
What an EMPTY article.
cirriusly!
A waste of bandwidth.
When you lose touch with reality, you end up writing garbage like this. However, BO’s SOTU Show seems to have re-energized Stanley’s Obama Tingle.
and then...this one time...at band camp...
proving that lefties think in loops -- sheesh talk about vacant
All this blather to cover a simple fact:
OBAMA HAD A MAJORITY GOVERMENT and could have passed anything hey wanted with their fireproof 60 vote supermajority.
Blaming the right for Obama’s and the dem’s complete and utter foulup is not going to fool anyone and certainly no one on the “progressive” side who definitely know the dems blew it.
A moron in search of a thought.
But Stanley Crouch is a pig. A nasty, swinish pig.
LLS
What has happened to Stanley Crouch?
You can write like this and get published?
...for me to poop on!
/voice of that puppet dog with the cigar
Did some one let Stanley Crouch out of Bellevue? I thought he was locked in for good.
Al Jolson?
That was my first thought. What an awful picture.
One gets the impression that he is struggling to say something profound. He can’t really get there and opts for circumlocution and pompousity instead.
He seems to have the idea that as long as he is extolling his god(obama) and denigrating satan(Pubs), anything he says will be taken seriously.
His comparison of slapping down Republicans by outlawing slavery is, by any measure, ignorant.
How did this crap get published. Wow. (and we wonder why they can’t give away a newspaper)
