Walter Russell Mead: The Death of Global Warming
The American Interest ^ | February 1st, 2010 | Walter Russell Mead

The global warming movement as we have known it is dead. Its health had been in steady decline during the last year as the once robust hopes for a strong and legally binding treaty to be agreed upon at the Copenhagen Summit faded away. By the time that summit opened, campaigners were reduced to hoping for a ‘politically binding’ agreement to be agreed that would set the stage for the rapid adoption of the legally binding treaty. After the failure of the summit to agree to even that much, the movement went into a rapid decline.

The movement died from two causes: bad science and bad politics.

After years in which global warming activists had lectured everyone about the overwhelming nature of the scientific evidence, it turned out that the most prestigious agencies in the global warming movement were breaking laws, hiding data, and making inflated, bogus claims resting on, in some cases, no scientific basis at all. This latest story in the London Times is yet another shocker; the IPCC’s claims that the rainforests were going to disappear as a result of global warming are as bogus and fraudulent as its claims that the Himalayan glaciers would melt by 2035. It seems as if a scare story could grab a headline, the IPCC simply didn’t care about whether it was reality-based.

With this in mind, ‘climategate’ — the scandal over hacked emails by prominent climate scientists — looks sinister rather than just unsavory. The British government has concluded that University of East Anglia, home of the research institute that provides the global warming with much of its key data, had violated Britain’s Freedom of Information Act when scientists refused to hand over data so that critics could check their calculations and methods. Breaking the law to hide key pieces...

Believe me, they’ll find something else. But at least for now, we’ve got something of a respite.

Isn't it about time to predict a global cooling again? ;-)

To me this is all a perfect example of "Jumping the Shark". They kept getting more and more brazen, with the MSM in tow while skepticism was growing and growing, until finally ... poof. They have invested a huge amount of capital and labor in this ruse and all that is pretty much for naught now. They will try to keep it going. They will try Ocean acidification. But the gig is up and thirty (30) years of lies has come tumbling down. It will take another thirty to replicate. Good riddance - now lets take on PC, Diversity and the rest of Fonzy's antics.

Well, now that we have shown that the politics won’t work, and we cannot get world wide compliance to stop the phenomenon, WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE! THE SKY IS STILL FALLING!

Now is the time for the conservative movement to take back the conservation movement and make Teddy Roosevelt proud. Enough of the political nonsense and get back to common sense frugal living, conservation of resources, and good stewardship.

We won’t know the full extent until they audit the money behind the scientists.
This was the world’s largest hoax, in terms of costs, numbers of individuals involved and years.

If someone could get to the bottom of this, we would find that the special interest groups were funded by the wealthiest of individuals such as Soros, Corporations such as Shell, NGOs such as WWF,GreenPeace etc as well as the good ole boys in the communist party like Bill Ayers and Chomsky.

It was perpetrated extort funds from industrialized nations and give it to third world nations and eventually meant to overthrow democratic governments and replace them with global socialism.

I can see why Osama and Obama loved this cause. Anyone who hates freedom and liberty jumped on the band wagon with this thing.

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
