Isn't how this crisis happened? People who couldn't afford to pay back the loan got all sorts of loans and then many of them defaulted?

Just what the world needs: financial advice from a real, live Princess. Maybe next she’ll give us instructions about how to clean a toilet.

Don’t assume that microfinance is a govt. giveaway like 0bama’s stimulus package. It involves loans, many of which are tiny and most of which are repaid. The parasitic dictatorial govts. are given no incentive or chance to steal the aid, as they often do with charity. How else are we going to let the working poor in the Third World follow the path to self-help and investment which led to our own prosperity?

It’s not part of conservatism to lump people into big groups and judge them collectively. There are individuals who are poor because they had the bad luck to be born into backward, corrupt countries, as were the ancestors of many Americans. Many people in the Third World work harder than many Americans. Microfinance is capitalism, not welfare, and the recipients are not ghetto bums.

I’m still feeling tetchy about all the loans that were taken out by idiots and then they ruined this economy. I know that people in the Third World work like fiends and many have the wrong luck to be born in poor countries, but the headline jolted me.

By shooting their scumbag dictatorial governments, using targeted assassinations, then giving the people shovels, guns, and Bibles? /sarc?>

I’d rather deal with the more frugal Princess Sentra.

They certainly need to be liberated from corrupt and parasitical govts., but that's not just a matter of killing a few bad guys. New ones would just take their place.

Statistics show that Americans are more productive that almost any other people, but is that because they work harder? No; it's because they are better capitalized. Someone saved and invested so they have machines to increase their prosperity. And the savers were not all Americans. I wonder how many people realize that much of the development of the U.S. in the 19th cent. was financed by foreign investors, chiefly British. Obviously they would not have invested if they knew they didn't have the rule of law and the high ethics of a Christian American population protecting their investment.

Some people here think that certain communities are hopeless. If Korean-Americans thought that about our inner cities, would they go there and start their Mom and Pop stores? The fact that conditions are difficult means that the Koreans have few competitors. Potential entrepreneurs are everywhere. Some just need a little help.

Yeah, right Princess holier-than-thou. Then what happens when we have a bunch of poor third-world debtors with more debt than they can ever pay off? Why, we'll get Princess holier-than-thou coming along to lecture us all on forgiving that same debt that would not have been incurred in the first place but for her asinine opinions.

Go fcuk yourself, princess dear.

The USA developed from a “backward nation” to a global powerhouse quite well without these kinds of handouts. The ONLY thing “poor” countries is a healthy dose of free-market economics and an entrepreneurial spirit.

Poor countries are those that made poor choices — such s the choice to pursue the path of socialism and corruption over liberty and God.

Of course. Just like that idiot Bono - prances around telling everyone to cough up more to hand over to the poor, then goes back to one of his several mansions and prances around in private pretending to be something other than a liberal patsy.

As I said, a microcredit loan is not a handout. It's pure capitalism.

Saying the people of a country "choose" everything that happens to them is absurd. I didn't "choose" 0bama to be President. The students in Iran don't "choose" to be ruled by a tyranny, and many are dying for demonstrating against it. The people of Eastern Europe didn't "choose" to have Soviet tanks shoving communism down their throats. There are individuals with an entrepreunerial spirit in every country. Some don't have much of a chance.

Our forefathers did not “choose” to be ruled by King George. But they made the sacrifice in blood and treasure necessary to throw off tyranny. Some nations are not willing to pledge their lives to the cause of liberty. They want to be freed without putting themselves at risk. The result of acquiesce and lack of courage are predictable. People have to die for others to win freedom. If nobody is willing to pick up a gun and face the bullets coming the other way, then nothing changes.

The lack of action being taken for the cause of liberty in other places is not my problem. The USA has problems of its own!
