Norman Lear: Dear Rush... (Pabulum Puking Liberal Alert)
Propeller ^ | Jan 30, 2010 | Norman Lear

Posted on 01/30/2010 7:50:56 PM PST by Titus-Maximus

Yesterday, driving to work I listened to Rush Limbaugh read a letter he'd written to President Obama. I listen to Limbaugh because he reminds me of the carnival barkers of my youth, men who were selling elixirs, snake oil, or inviting you for an extra 50 cents to check out the half man/half woman in the secreted tent. They were quaint and harmless compared to the barking Limbaugh who yesterday would have us believe -- he actually said this! -- the President was seeking to destroy the country so that he might then save it.

The rest of the day, last night, and this morning I couldn't stop thinking about the ugly, vindictive, dispiriting and reprehensible things barker Limbaugh had to say about our President. I ached to answer him but couldn't find the words. And then I remembered a scene in an episode of All In The Family when Maude, who later starred in her own series, came to visit Archie. Archie was sitting in his chair. Maude was standing beside him and they were fighting about the legacy of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Finally, Archie who was rewriting history in this argument said something so misguided and distasteful that Maude could not find the words to respond with. All but choking with frustration, her entire body seemingly ready to burst, all she could say was: "You're Fat!"

After a lifetime of trying to reach the El Rushbos of my life, all I can say is: "You're FAT!" Read Full Story at huffingtonpost.com »

Stupid piece, remarkable in that the left is reveling in its "genius". He calls Rush Limbaugh - Archie Bunker. Hey Neil - can you do any better than that? The problem the left has over Limbaugh is that they cannot refute him, and he wails for three hours, tanning their hides day in and day out. They are reduced to calling him names, and Lear, the great wordsmith himself, just ain't that smart.

Reality has voted and 0 is a colossal failure and doubling down on his worst traits like talking instead of listening.

Archie Bunker was Norman Lear’s conception of a conservative.

A racist, ignorant, uncouth person.

Archie Bunker was the anti-Reagan so to speak, the direct opposite of what a real conservative was.

Lear’s version was an urban one unlike the many rural stereotypes of patriotic Americans who espouse traditional values that liberals have concocted over the years.

Lear was always overrated. Unfortunately, he did much damage to our country through leftist propaganda in his television shows. Back in those days, there was little media outlet to show people the lies and distortions present and we were force fed leftist demagoguery.

If you can’t refute what they say, call them names.

Nothing new, nothing smart, nothing intellectual.

Typical “Progressive” ...

He basically was a plagiarist.....copying British sitcoms of that day. Nothing original.

Lear is having problems with the fact that his 15 minutes are up. He needs to let it go.

I am not sure whether Archie was his conception of a conservative. It may have been, but what I believe is more likely is that he wanted to display and parade “Archie” as the typical conservative to a gullible and naive viewing public. He wanted “Archie” to be a caricature of all conservatives.

***Archie Bunker was Norman Lear’s conception of a conservative.***

I never could watch that show. It was so leftist liberal . I did watch it ONE time, about gun control, all the rage in the late ‘60s and 70s. It was a leftist’s gungrabbers wet dream.

To: Nextrush; All

and you Mr. Lear are a Fat Head..make that a “Meat Head”, (that term was from the same episode I’m sure)

Isn’t it amazing that all the Limbaugh critics just simply cannot get enough of Rush. Are we to assume that was the only commentary he heard in his car? or is Norman a frequent listener? It appears your powers to persuade are solely lacking and so is your eyesight. Rush is not fat, but what do you expect from a looney liberal dead set on dividing people on race, creed, sex, color or physical attributes.

Nextrush is correct. Archie Bunker was Norman Lear’s conception of a conservative. Wrong then..wrong now....So Stifle yourself dingbat!

Modelled after a Brit character, Archie was intended to be an object of derision and ridicule. In the strange belljar inhabited by the Norman Lears of the world, we were supoosed to see ourselves in Archie, be suitably shamed, and get our minds right.

The great irony is that Archie became a hero, a spokesman for Everyman who had been trashed, disparaged, silenced and discounted by the hothouse liberals of the intelligentsia.

Lears' big project of social engineering blew up in his face like an exploding cigar. He had a hit show on his hands, to be sure. But the typical response of We The People to Archie was not "Oh how meanspirited and bigotted he is, we must not be like him," but rather, "He goes too far, but he has a point."

Archie's comedic value was too great to be subordinated to Lear's banal message politics. Lear unwittingly initiated the beginning of the pushback against political correctness in America, the opposite of the effect he sought.

Then his wife dumped him and took all his money, which she promptly pissed away on a worthless short-lived magazine. That's why he still has to drive to work and listen to Rush Limbaugh be more successful than he ever was. Poetic justice.

Hey, Norm —

Remember when you were somebody? When you mattered?

How’s it feel to be picking up Rush’s crumbs?
