The United States military has stopped evacuations of critically ill patients from Haiti to Florida until it is resolved who will pay for the treatment. Until now, planes loaded with earthquake victims had been flown out of Haiti to Florida for treatment. But now the U.S. military has halted medical evacuation...
"If Florida isn't taking them ... and I can't confirm this, but I think Georgia has made a similar statement, so if we can't bring them anywhere for treatment, then they're staying in Haiti," said Navy Captain Kevin Aandahl of the US Transportation Command.
Florida asked for suspension: The suspension comes after Florida requested the government to freeze medical aid over concerns that there is not enough money to treat them. As of now, more than 500 people have been treated in the state hospitals. But now the state is asking for federal money to treat victims who do not have insurance.
Sterling Ivey, a spokesperson for Governor Charlie Crist, stated that Florida is ready to treat Haiti victims, but there is a need for a proper plan of action and reimbursement for the care we are providing....Florida also cited that there was not enough space in the hospitals to treat all patients.
Governor Crist added, We are trying to make sure we dont over burden Florida and I think that its important that we dont....
Of course it makes America, especially Florida, look cruel and heartless, but there’s no way hundreds of critically injured patients can be shipped in to local hospitals without knowing how the costs will be paid. We had a planeload of them arrive here in Tampa, 45 on board. 17 of them were sent to local hospitals. That’s a lot of medical care to be expected to provide without knowing you’ll be paid for the services.
I’m sure there is also concern in Florida that those patients already treated will never leave.
Why not take them to Canada, Cuba, or England? After all, healthcare is “free” there.
“Governor Crist added, We are trying to make sure we dont over burden Florida and I think that its important that we dont....”
Yet at the same time, Crist is pushing for food stamps for illegal aliens in Florida.
Farmworkers struggle after freeze kills crops, wages

Migrant advocates are mobilizing. On Thursday, Mainster asked George Sheldon, the Department of Children and Families secretary, to start a one-time emergency food stamp program.
If an emergency is declared, the federal government could waive documentation rules that would extend food stamps to those here illegally.
DCF leaders said the decision is not solely left to them. It hinges on a federal disaster declaration and approval to run an emergency food stamp program, said Jennifer Lange, director of the program that includes food stamps.
If the federal government approves a disaster food stamp program then documentation is not a question that is asked, Lange said.
*******Gov. Charlie Crist wrote the federal agriculture secretary Friday, asking him to speed up a request for a declaration for the state.*******
People could be eligible to immediately receive stamps or get them quickly in the mail, Lange said. The maximum benefit for one person is $200. The
department offered such programs in the past after hurricanes.
You don’t even have to take them that far, although I’ve been saying it all along. France would be my first choice if you fly them anywhere since the mainly speak French and it was a French Colony. How about the Dominican Republic? They share the same island. The DR still has its hospitals up and running. Send in medical teams to help handle the extra load. You can ground evac vs. air. Win, win, win.
From what I can gather
The pro-amnesty freakoids were out in force here last week, had a sit in in front of the DHS headquarters. Apparently they are all angry at BO for not issuing a royal presidential decree declaring amnesty. They are definitely unclear on the representative government-legislative branch thingie.
Didn’t our dear president send a bag of blank checks out to pay for all this?
Yep, yep, and yep. The only thing that might slow all of that down (not stop it) is that this is an election year.
Awesome idea. We haven't evolved past that old notion of money in this country yet.
Yeah, he could just pay for it from his “stash.”
Cuba? Venezuela? paragons of free healthcare
“Thats a lot of medical care to be expected to provide without knowing youll be paid for the services.”
I think you mean that’s a lot of medical care to be expected to provide to Haitians without being paid for the services.
Haitians won’t pay, and they’ll never go home. Each one is a burden of hundreds of thousands of dollars over many years, and not just for medical care.
Yeah, that good ole stash of "obama money". "that's why we love him, OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA"
Thats only the tip of the iceberg. They won’t be going home any time soon and you can expect to pony up for them for years on welfare.
Just imagine if this had happened on Bushg’s watch.
Received an email from the NC public health department on Haitian evacuees. Among the diseases we are to be aware of are AIDs, TB, Dengue, Typhus, Malaria etc etc...
Just imagine if this had happened on BUSH’S watch.
