Passenger makes a phone call to discuss his terror plot and al-Qaida

An Amtrak train bound for Chicago was stopped suddenly Tuesday when a man began spouting terrorist threats.

“We have to work in small groups ... They can hold you for 18 months ... Do they have security on these trains? ... Are you with me or not?” the 64-year-old passenger allegedly said into his cell phone while riding the train, according to Chicago Breaking News Center.

Ojore Nuru Lutalo from Elizabeth is currently being held by authorities in Denver.

Police said in an affidavit that passengers overheard the man saying he hadn’t killed anyone yet and talked about going to jail. One passenger even heard Lutalo mention al-Qaida.

“17th century tactics won’t work, we have 21st century tactics,” Lutalo allegedly said.

The conductor was suspicious when he saw the man with a tan blanket over his entire body and couldn’t see anything he was doing. Police said he was not armed or carrying explosives, but carrying propaganda for an anarchist group called Afrikan Liberation Army.

Minneapolis’ Star Tribune reported Lutalo was released in August from New Jersey prison after a 27-year term for aggravated assault, robbery and two counts of weapons possession.

Like I keep saying, all these incidents are distractions. Testing the waters. Be vigilant and prepared.

Mr. BD & I recently took the train from San Diego up to San Francisco, and discussed the lack of overt security onboard. No metal detectors/scanners/beebers in sight, for either passengers or carry-on luggage. I guess they’ll worry about it once something big ‘happens’. Then, 0bama can talk about how Bush did nothing to protect the trains...

>>Be vigilant and prepared.<<

.
And expect more of them to flood this country. We, as a nation, are truly suicidal as we allow more and more of our enemies to come live with us.

Duh. Of course not. What could someone do to a train? Blow up one car? You'd do more damange by just parking a truck on the tracks in front of it, for far less effort. Or simply taking apart the train tracks in the middle of nowhere (a single sledge hammer and/or a pry bar is sufficient) and letting the entire train derail, or tampering with the signal system and running two trains into each other (cross some wires, presto!). Or steal a portable derail and put on the tracks in front of a train. Or let a loose freight car roll down the tracks by releasing its parking break into an oncoming train.

Do you need a metal detector to get on a highway in your vehicle?

What's more dangerous, a train which is limited to going on its track, or a truck which could be packed with explosives and driven into a building ala OK City?

There is "security" if you want to call it that, at airports, because airplanes must defy the law of gravity through lift and carry enough fuel to destroy a skyscraper.

Trains are stuck on the ground, can only follow their tracks, are not full of explosive liquids. The idea that trains "need" security against their passengers is ludicrous. The biggest threat to a train is trucks at grade crossings and intentional derailments, not bombs.

Trains aren't planes. They don't need airport style security.

I take it you have not traveled by train or been in a train station recently. Let's take Union Station in Chicago for example. Not only does Union Station serve Amtrak but is the hub for all rail transportation in Chicago. Tens of thousands of people pass thru this terminal everyday. An explosive aboard an incoming Amtrak train, within the terminal itself, could kill hundreds, if not thousands of travelers and commuters.

Wise up N00BIE.

They are probing and testing our responses and verifying what works and what won’t. These low-level probers probably don’t even know they’re being used as test subjects. But somebody is watching the reactions.

Patriotic passengers will be our last line of defense, same as on the airlines.

This needs to be said over and over again!

The last terrorist act on an Amtrak train was using the actions Heliand described (domestic terrorism). Amtrak and other commuter lines use random searches aboard its trains and platforms, as well as surveillence at stations and other methods.

Have a look at rail bridges. Especially those serving power plants. There are seven critical bridges in North America that could severely damage our economy if attacked. I know a few offhand that carry coal supplies to power plants. The power plant would exhaust the coal on the ground long before the bridge could be rebuilt. The economic devastation caused by the prolonged blackout would be severe.

maybe he was doing this & saying these things so he could go BACK to jail. Some people get used to it and become “institutionalized”- look how long he was in there before he just was released

So after just a very few months from being released from a 25+ year stint in the penetentary this guy has nothing better to do than get himself arrested again for some stupid terrorist threat charges? This poor fool wants to go back to his well-known environment - prison. Kind of sad really, on some level. Well, not my level anyway, hehe. Just lock him up for life and be done with it.
