JD Hayworth Paid More than $101,000 by Indicted Lobbyist Jack Abramoff

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, a research group in Washington that monitors the influence of money in politics, Mr. Hayworth was the largest single Congressional recipient of donations from Mr. Abramoff and his family, his associates, his Indian tribe clients and a gambling cruise ship line that he owned, with more than $101,000 going to Mr. Hayworth and his political action committee since 1999. Mr. Hayworth was also a frequent guest in sports skyboxes controlled by Mr. Abramoff and his clients, and at Signatures, a Washington restaurant owned by the lobbyist.

Mr. Mitchell said Mr. Hayworth needed to return donations linked to Mr. Abramoff if he wanted to prove that he was not involved in "all the corruption that's been going on in Washington." In the meantime, Mr. Mitchell said, the party was looking for a strong candidate to challenge Mr. Hayworth in a race that, he said, would now focus in large part on the incumbent's ties to Mr. Abramoff.

Mr. Hayworth's chief of staff, Joe Eule, said in a statement that he did not take Mr. Mitchell's threats seriously and that the congressman had no intention of returning the money.

He said that Mr. Hayworth, co-chairman of the House Native American Caucus, "has been a hero to tribes nationwide" and that it was not surprising that "tribes, including a few formerly affiliated with Mr. Abramoff, have been generous in supporting Mr. Hayworth's political efforts."

The research by the Center for Responsive Politics shows that of the top 25 Congressional recipients of political money linked to Mr. Abramoff, 19 are Republicans and 6 are Democrats. The second largest recipient was listed as House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, with $69,000 in donations.

You know we have those kind of people running. Those like Chris Simcox who founded the Minute Men. We had them in 2008, we have Doug Hoffman like candidates running and no one supports them unless they look like a shoe in. That is why individuals like Patrick Hughes who should be winning the nomination in a walk are instead being trounced in Illinois. We have been good with Rubio and with Brown and Toomy but we are really not doing so good other places even though the same dynamic is playing itself out. Instead we have a growing number of liberal Republican candidates trying to co-opt or hijack the tea party movement which would put us right back where we were before. I don’t hate JD Hayworth, I just see it as a horrible waste of time. If we want to fight someone at least we should fight the new libs try to rise to prominence on the backs of our angst. McCain is going to retire in a few years. I have disagreed with him many times but he appears to have changed and I do appreciate him more and his independent after bothering to read his book. We have an opportunity nationwide to move the whole foundations of Washington back 100 years. If we win big this next election and then take the Presidency and have a real majority of conservative liberty loving supporters of sovereign citizens we will have won our country back.

Sarah Palin needs to think long and hard on who she has linked herself with.

She has more in common with Hayworth than McCain..

Having to shell out a half a million for bogus investigations done on Hayworth and Palin should make the point.

Change rule barring immigrants from running for president?

Q: Should we change our Constitution to allow men like Mel Martinez, born in Cuba, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, born in Austria, to stand here some night as candidates for president?

McCAIN: He and I have many similar attributes, so I have to seriously consider it.

So who is the alternative? Chris Simcox, who put Gary Kreep in charge of the Minuteman $$$ (which vanished into consultants’ pockets)?

Great find AuntB. We need to keep this stuff handy because McCain is going nuclear on JD. I don’t think he understands that the fallout will be much more painful for him and his flying monkeys.

Your one-man anti-Hayworth vendetta is very suspicious.

Hey now! Be nice to  Maelstrom, it’s not easy being the guy in the McCain office who got the Free Republic assignment.

Yeah, Hayworth got about 300 dollars less than Obama.

PLUS he gave it away when he realized it was tainted. Wonder what Bambo did.

Come on Maelstorm, man-up and admit this really isn't much of an issue.

You know he was exonerated of any wrong-doing in the subsequent investigation and you also know he gave all contributions from Abramoff to charity.

Come on, are you a hypocrite?
