What could they be charged with?

Thats what I am wondering.

Reading the affidavit, I saw that they were charged with trespassing among other minor charges. Protesters routinely get arrested for this are are typically released after 3 days for time served.

I wonder how much is actually going to stick, especially once the video hits.

I would not want to be the judge sentencing them to any sort of time after it is shown that contrary to Landrieus claims, they were literally polishing their nails while the people were blocked from contacting their representative.

BONUS Conspiracy Theory; I bet that the “accomplice” that was in the car a block or two away was busily calling Landrieus office over and over and they were filming the attempts to call along with scenes of the receptionist updating her Facebook while voicemail was telling callers that no lines were available.

I could be wrong but I do think that this is very close to what did and will happen.

Cheers,

knewshound

“Trespass, impersonating phone company employees ... All not so swift if you think about it.”

Yeah we know the charges are legit. I mean its not like this Senator has accepted $100 billion bribes or anything.

You all know, if you’ve read Harvey Silverglate’s “Three Felonies a Day,” or if you’ve had my unfortunate experiences in federal court, it’s not what the defendants actually *did*, it’s what the feds *say* they did.

Jesus could be convicted in federal court. (Oh wait, he was, wasn’t he?)

He was acquitted by Pilate but was sent off by Pilate to be killed anyway because the people complained that they wanted Barabbas instead of him and that they'd squeal on him to Caesar if he didn't.

I see LEO arrests for ignoring law and following PC. Maybe the purpose of the operation.

No law against this.

Impersonation of anyone to gain access is at a minimum trespass. And federal offices and buildings enforce that. Senate offices are considered federal property even if they aren’t. There is also a security issue when discussing members of Congress.

It may also fall under the terrorist statues.

The charging FBI affidavit says trespass ... It was a really bad decision to do whatever they were doing at a federal office.

Uh - uh. A PBX phone system is digital and it sends voice information in data packets to the individual phones. You can’t wiretap it. If you want to infiltrate it, you have to get into the server and program it to redirect certain calls to another line so that you can translate the information to voice and then listen to it.

Well actually you could have the trunks or extensions appear on another phone as well, but that would involve having a complimentary phone and programing the phone into the system via the administration software. Not something that a layman could do rather easily, particularly without knowing the aministrators password. And then you would have to be within a couple hundred feet of the phone system with a wired or system compatible wireless phone.

Trespass in a public office? Impersonating phone company employees but did not attempt to bug the phones? Is that like impersonating a plumber and merely checking out the toilet? So what was illegal?
