CHALMETTE, La. (AP) - Three men suspected of trying to tamper with phones at Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu's office have been released from a suburban New Orleans jail.

Among them was James O'Keefe, a conservative activist who posed as a pimp to target the community-organizing group ACORN. O'Keefe said "veritas," the Latin word for truth, as he left the jail with suspects Stan Dai and Joseph Basel, both 24.

They declined comment, and Dai said there will be a time for that

“O’Keefe said “veritas,” the Latin word for truth, as he left the jail with suspects Stan Dai and Joseph Basel, both 24.”

Interesting that there is no mention of Flanagan being released.

O’Keefe seems to have been there to film whatever Flanagan and Basel were up to while Dai waited outside.

Flanagan is the son of acting U.S. Attorney Bill Flanagan in Shreveport.

I suspect there is much more to the story.

At 9:36 p.m. EST, O’Keefe tweeted:
I am a journalist. The truth shall set me free.

Update.

He commented on the suit against him:

“INTERESTING TIMING; acorn suit against Giles and I filed today in federal district court http://bit.ly/4Fd6zc 5:04 PM Jan 21st”

I think the “wiretapping” thing is an invention of the authorities in order to make the charges more serious and that if the prosecutors try to push it, they won’t have much evidence.

The guys can say that the phone ruse was just to get into the building.

As to “veritas”, it could just be bravado on O’Keefe’s part.

> Does whistleblower protection cover potential criminal
> acts which uncover corruption?

Generally, the Whistleblower Acts apply to government, employees or associates of the entity in question.

However, External Whistleblowers, such as members of the media, have limited protections in certain situations to expose corruption.

A lot of their success with this defense depends on actual violations committed. An intangible aspect here is if they have already gathered any damning “dirt” on Landrieu or other Senators with which to plea bargain, or request IG or other special federal protections — as I suspect they might ...

After being threatened with wiretapping charges in Maryland with the ACORN sting there, I would be very, VERY surprised if they didn't consult with attorneys beforehand to determine protections they would be afforded as members of the media or as Whistleblowers if they were, in fact, caught ...

Odd,but I haven’t noticed the word “alledged” in any of the reports. I don’t think the government authorities have these guys skeered.

When I look up James O'Keefe III on Twitter, there is a link to his website http://www.veritasvisuals.com/ , which has very recently been registered and has no content.

Right there is your link to the "veritas" statement.

O'Keefe is not stupid.

I dunno, he's 25 years old and calls Alinsky a genius and says politically he's a "[P]rogressive radical"

Alinsky was a genius. But O’Keefe is mistaken about being a progressive.

I hear you. I know he's said this about himself--the first time I heard it, I laughed.

I don't think a progressive would expose the lying crooks at Planned Parenthood. People just like the word "progressive."

Apparently he got over confident after his successful stings of ACORN. He should have known better than to break federal law, if he did. He has been released, they don’t say whether the charges were dropped of not.

So I am radical in the sense I use tactics and strategies outdated news people are unwilling to use and progressive in the sense that I don’t think its worth conserving organizations which steal your money and facilitate the starting of brothels for underage girls.

He’s being cheeky. About Alinsky, too. He’s basically saying he’s co-opting Alinsky’s tactics.
