Endorsement of McCain alienates Palin supporters
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 2010-01-26 | Jay Bookman

Posted on 01/26/2010 2:17:50 PM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain, the man who brought Sarah Palin to national prominence, is being challenged for re-election in the GOP primary by former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. Palin recently announced that she plans to travel to Arizona to campaign on McCain’s behalf, but posters on her Facebook page are not at all happy with their Sarah:

“Sarah, it was fun, but now you are done.”

“Sarah, your support of McCain shows bad judgment and brings into question the validity of your words. You can forget any political ambition if you support Amnesty – which John McCain does. Conservatives don’t forget.”

“You do know Senator McCain is a PROGRESSIVE? It is very disappointing that you are campaigning for him instead of J.D. Hayworth. McCain needs to go!”

“Sorry to hear that you are supporting McCain. Up to now, I thought you were part of the solution, but you’ve shown yourself to be part of the problem.”

“McCain!? Are you kidding me? Time to pick a side, Sarah– Are you with the people, or against them?”

“I agree with those who advise you not to campaign for Senator McCain. He really doesn’t represent the views of grassroot conservatives. He represents those in the GOP who have too often been willing to compromise on principle, or even worse, have failed to really understand basic conservative principles.”

“McCain used Palin like a cheap tool to keep from getting beat worse than Reagan did to Mondale. His staff mocked her and showed no respect. Now McCain is using her again like a cheap tool and this time she is willingly doing it under the guise of loyalty. As long as McCain is the face of the GOP, conservatives are irrelevant. Palin is playing politics and this goes against what she “supposedly” represents. She helps elect McCain, she’s done.”

“I respect your loyalty to McCain, Sarah, but he really is using you. You need to do what you are obligated to do for him, and then run as far away from him as possible. He’s widely despised in the Conservative movement, and you’ll be hurting yourself badly with your support base if you do more than offer your token support or speak on his behalf.”

“McCain is not a commonsense candidate. If you support him your future as a conservative candidate is over.”

“Another day ~ another appeal to our girl from Wasilla: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not follow through with your plan to campaign for John McCain. In the insightful words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” To do so will destroy your credibility, have your enemies carping: “I told you so,” and leave your fans devastated.”

That’s just a small sampling of some 2,500 comments, and I have to admit to being surprised by the vehemence and near-unanimity of that sentiment. It makes me think that McCain might eventually have real trouble in the Arizona primary.

I’m not as prescient as some here. I actually though she was more clever than this. When does the “Stupid Party” grow a pair and say ENOUGH already. RINOs kill the party, and they must be held to account. Where would you like to draw your line in the sand? Now’s as good a time as any.

Sarah is not an elected official right now though. She's a private citizen.

No, Medina has a very long and rambling statement on her site that neither you nor I can make sense of, your excerpt was like the main statement, unclear. Post her entire statement, maybe other freepers can unlock it for us.

Palin is in it for the quick buck and then she will get out of public life. McCain probably wrote her a bigger check then JD.

Maybe O’Keefe should have bugged McCain’s phone so we could hear what goes on between Sarah and mcCain.

“Using your analogy, if Jesus endorsed Satan, wouldn’t you possibly consider that there is a reasoning for that endorsement beyond your understanding or would you just damn Jesus?”

No. I’d be wondering if whom I thought was Jesus wasn’t actually Satan in disguise.

If you want to see wtc911 sticking up for candidates, then you need to look in the Giuliani and Romney threads.

wtc911 isn’t big on conservatives, especially social conservatives.

Hey, don’t blame it on the liberal media.

This is a conservative problem. We split up the conservative vote last election and we may do it again.

Realistically, it’s either going to be Palin or Romney, barring a Mr. Smith goes to Washington miracle.

Just don’t whine about RINOs when you kick Palin to the curb.

Note: I don’t consider the 1 %’rs really relavent to the conservative cause or political equation. I’m talking about the relavent conservatives.

Only a deaf, dumb and blind apostate could spin going from 90% to 53% approval as a victory.

The only thing that stopped that slide was resignation.

I can’t believe you’re actually arguing this point.

Great observation, MM.

I’m amazed at how many FReepers consider Scott Brown to be the second coming of Jesus Christ, while Sarah Palin is now the devil incarnate.

Take a look at their past performance, not what you think they’ll do tomorrow.

That’s probably the message Palin is trying sending out to the independents with her endorsement of McCain — “she really is a progressive conservative just like McCain.” She knows her base will stay with her through thick and thin, so why not spend a little political capital early and try and win over a few independents?

I don’t think it’s going to turn out that way. I think she has seriously underestimated the significance of both the AZ primary and her part in it. And if McCain does actually win, the political price Sarah Palin will pay for her support for McCain now might become astronomical in her own primary.

quit is a good description for Romney.
He quit on his responsibility as an American citizen,
sitting in Paris while Americans did their duty fighting
in Viet Nam

His 5 sons have never served their country in the military.

Thanks for the bump. My only disappointment is that I doubt many will slog through a 500+ post to understand the despicale nature of it all.

It’s all very confusing...Palin is Reagan and everyone is gaga, then bam she’s a backstabbing RINO...now some guy named Hayworth is Reagan...and the whole time Romney is rubbing his hands together like Snidely Whiplash...magritte

You just can't stay with the truth can you.

Her low point was dropping to 54% which is very good numbers, when she resigned she was back up to 56% and her disapproval was plummeting. (after the media gave her some, before the veep race her disapproval was almost non existent.)

Palin was assured of reelection with numbers like hers, let's compare her to a guy that you approve of and supported.

“I’m amazed at how many FReepers consider Scott Brown to be the second coming of Jesus Christ, while Sarah Palin is now the devil incarnate.”

Brown never hid who he was. Palin rode to the forefront on a platform of “commonsense conservatism”. If that means supporting RINO’s then we don’t need any of Palin’s commonsense.

Palin has to listen to US, not us to PALIN as you recommend. She is not a Queen, she is not a messiah, she is just the same as any politician we know.
