I don't know if you're doing a survivalist type of thing but some writing of the late Mel Tappan touches on some of the subjects you mention, and heavily into firearms.

The Frugal American Housewife by Lydia Child.
Lots of interesting stuff in there, along with a few kooky things about using quicksilver to kill ants and stuff.
You can buy it on Amazon or read it for free at gutenberg.org

Our library carries mystery stories, children’s books, oh, and did I say mysteries?

I love Lehmans. I am also looking for essays, like EBWhite’s on his saltwater farm...

You gotta check out The Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery.

Also books by Joel Salatin notably “You can Farm” and “Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal”.

There are thousands of others.

Thomas Jefferson said that if our Republic was to survive that at least 25 percent of the population must be farmers on the land.

It really depends on your plans.
My favorite books are “The Apple Grower”, but that is because we are planning on an orchard.
There are a lot of good cheap books on Pigs and Chickens. I have found them to have good returns.
