As a side note, after General Chuck’s book “Yeager” came out, I found his address, mailed him a copy of the book with a letter asking that he and Glennis autograph it (sent a return envelope too). They both autographed it and mailed it back to me ... it’s one of my treasured possessions.

Chuck Yeager is an American icon.

There is a story out there, maybe it’s urban legend,
that he was doing a test flight in ca when he experienced a cockpit fire.

He calmly called it in and said there was a problem as “the smoke was obscuring that view of Mt Baldy that we all love so well”
