Someone on another thread had either been on the flight or knew someone who had, and he said the man got up and tried to open the door because he thought he was on the wrong flight! According to the poster, the would-be door-opener was beaten by the passengers in the course of subduing him, so I guess he must have resisted attempts to get him away from the door. No identification or description, but he sounds like he was either crazy or drunk.

I guess he thought he was going to leap out the door and catch a passing plane to his real destination (which, hopefully, was not Islamic paradise and his 72 raisins).

“Las Vegas Bound Flight Diverted Due to Unruly Passenger”
Updated: 3 hours 57 minutes ago

(Jan. 23) —
SNIPPET: “Holloman described the passenger as about 6’ 1” and up to 270 pounds with blond hair and wispy facial hair. “He was a large guy and an unkempt guy,” he said.

Holloman said the man brought on two carry on bags: a black backpack and a brown bag.

He carried the brown bag with him to the front of the plane.

After the man was subdued, passengers and flight attendants started questioning him.

When he was asked what was in the bag, Sandou said the man said, “You’ll see.”

For that, “I twisted his arms a little more tight,” said Sandou.”

That's where the interrogation of the Christmas Day underpants bomber should've taken place. One the plane and by the other passengers.

You know-pretty soon-some entrepeneur is going to start a certificate program for “How To Subdue The Crazy person On Your Flight”...

Or-you’re going to have to pass a mental exam and “substance abuse” testing before flying.

All planes should now be equipped with a HUGE syringe of valium ready to go...like on Star Trek-ya know?

I'm flying in two weeks to a Krav Maga advanced training course, accompanied by three of my fellow instructors. Those would be a couple of flights for my fellow passengers to be very well behaved on...
