For anyone who has ever seen Tim Robbins talk about, well, anything political, you probably find it hard to fathom that he would donate much more than a mean-spirited scowl at a extreme right-wing Republican candidate. Like us, you would be wrong.
According to Federal Election Commission records dug up by the Daily Beast, Robbins shelled out $5,000 worth of donations to 10 Republican candidates in the 2006 election cycle, including a $500 check cut to controversial Arizona politico J.D. Hayworth.
"Maybe because I covered the Durham Bulls as a sports broadcaster in the late 1970s and early '80s? Maybe because I used to frequently rent Bob Roberts back in the '90s?" Hayworth jokes with the Beast. "All I can say is, 'Thank you!' I hope he enjoyed the Christmas card."
Records also show that Robbins doled out a $500 donation to CNN's "Wingnut of the Year," Michele Bachman. Click here for New Times' sister paper in the Twin Cities, City Pages', coverage of all the loony bullshit this lady's been up to.
Hayworth is in the process of trying to come up with the cash to pay the legal bills he racked up defending himself from ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. In fact, he recently had a fundraiser hosted by Maricopa County's very own disgrace, Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Maybe that the reason why he and Sarandon have called it quits? Maybe he’s finally growing up?

Personally I don’t know why so many are gaga for JD Hayworth. Chris Simcox is the guy if you want a true conservative. Mr. Hayworth wasn’t shy about spending money nor about how he raised it. If we are going to be all puritan with McCain then at least we should help push for an alternative that isn’t just another insider.

Perhaps the reason he finally separated from Susan Surandon? Robbins seems like a very smart guy, and Shawshank Redemption is one of my top 5 movies ever. Regardless of the reason, I just gained more respect for Tim Robbins as a person. He was already off the charts for me as an actor, his personal politics aside. I always assumed he was a flaming liberal, and it didn't matter to me because of how great he was at his job.

Could this be the reason for the split from Susan Sarandon?

Maybe Robbins’s left wing tirades were just a pose, and he got tired of posing at about the same time he got tired of Susan Sarandon, his ex.

He probably wants to keep what the liberals think are their “poster children” in the public eye.
This guy is an extreme liberal. He has not changed.

Somebody has kidnapped the real Tim Robbins. Maybe that's why Susan called it quits. Either Robbins is being held for ransom, or he's been reading Rand or Hayek, the Constitution, and his mind exploded.
Either way, this would make a good book or film.

The more I hear Michele Bachman, the more I love her. She is SO straightforward, so clear, so quick-witted and intelligible that she makes "women" like Boxer, Pelosi, and Feinstein look like the shriveled hags in Macbeth by comparison. To listen to this Michele is a recurring joy. Take note, Collins and Snowe, what a real Republican woman is like. She doesn't shtup the enemy for personal political advantage.
