The typical “postie” these days wouldn’t imagine dressing in lingerie was unusual for a grown man.
I thought documents were overrated in the new age of transparency.
Isn’t it pretty much standard to submit a story to the agency you are writing about to see if they have any comments, and to change it if they have useful ones that are factual?
That’s a far cry from printing talking points faxed from the White House Basement without changing a word, as virtually all of the leftist media have done since clinton perfected the practice.
And I suppose they didn’t snuggle up to FDR, JFK, or LBJ before that?
I don’t really see the “barf alert” on this one. That Hoover had a friend? I’m not feeling at all nauseous. That his friend was a somewhat popular news announcer, the contents of my stomach are still safe.
Meanwhile, the media sees no problem at all with daily conference calls with Rahm Emanuel so they can all get their DNC talking points and catchphrases down correctly.
Hoover was greatly feared by politicians because of his files on them. This fear kept them on the straight and narrow. The leftist media being in love with leftist politicians smeared Hoover after his death, and of course, give the politicians a pass on their foul vices.
This is a common tactic in journalism, pretending that something that was planned "just happened." Remember the retired couple who "just happened to be monitoring cell phone traffic with a recording device and "SHAZAM!!!!!" Who'da thunk it? They accidentally ended up listening to one of Newt Gingrich's cell phone conversations.
Mark Felt, who was Deep Throat, was the deputy director of the FBI, and wanted to be made director upon Hoover's death. Nixon instead appointed L. Patrick Gray, specifically because he did not want a continuation of the Hoover style of agency management. Felt was a big admirer of Hoover, and resented the change.
Felt spoon fed the information to Woodward and Bernstein, although when they wrote their books, they made it sound like the stories were a result of their brilliant investigative reporting skills. Felt violated quite a few laws about leaking of information, and also by not turning his information over to Justice or other organizations that would have had enforcement authority.
In the end, though, the Post ended up glorifying a guy who wanted to continue the Hoover style of FBI management in order to take down a guy, Nixon, who was trying to end it. Considering the hatred with which the left, including the Post, views Hoover, this is the ultimate irony.
It's perhaps all they could find that fits their political agenda, which despite what many think is not "liberal" but "conservative" in the sense the WP's editors and owners favor continuation of the status quo, i.e. a powerful federal government.
That's something Paul Harvey also favored if you recall his radio programs over the years. OK, he was a backslider on Viet-Nam, I'll concede that, but in most other ways he defended the feds. Whether it was wiretaps, snooping on civilians or the WOD, Paul Harvey was a cheerleader.
Remember his solution for Waco? Build a fence around Mt. Carmel and call it a federal prison.
You may not be aware of Paul Harvey's role in the Randy Weaver case. Google "Randy Weaver" FBI and "Paul Harvey" for the rest of the story (a story that is unlikely to be published in the thoroughly establishment Washington Post, BTW) and you'll be surprised.
