I just received an email from a friend regarding something new on the 2009 Federal IRS Tax Return requiring all gun owners to disclose all firearms they own. It claimed that this was verified by Snopes.
The email claims it was snuck in under a list of minor regulatory changes to the IRS laws and signed off without being read by the Congress Critters.
According to the email, all gun owners would need to pay a registration fee of $50 per firearm and also would require that the owners be fingerprinted.
It seems far-fetched, but I wouldn't put it past the pResident. Has anyone else received it?
It’s a hoax. I’ve seen the 2009 IRS Form 1040s (you can get them from the IRS Web site), and no such thing is on the forms.
AFAIK, this has been debunked.
Hoax, been floating around since about 2000 with the year changed each time
Was the claim that it was verified by Snopes also verified by Snopes?
You should but spam blocker up for this friend.
If the government was looking for a way to start a real tax revolt - or worse - this would be one way to get things rolling.
I fell for it too a few months ago. NRA devoted a short article in one of its magazines to debunk it. But, apparently, this rumor persists from an actual attempt to do just that a few years ago.
COINCIDENCE????????????????????????????
Was the email from George Carlin, Ted Nugent, or Don Rickles?
You might want to actually look it up on Snopes before saying it was verified.

bump for later
IT claimed (the e-mail) Did you even bother to verify it yourself? I can't believe you would start a thread with this kind of dribble.
I am delighted to have egg on my face over this one.
Just finished my taxes last night...no questions about guns, not that I would have been honest. “gee mr government I sold then last month......blah blah....”
Snopes = a liberal couple in an apt. somewhere.
I got it on my iPhone and it isn't that easy to read. I posted here to get it verified or straightened out, but not to take a bunch of crap from a second-rate like you.
So enjoy your vitriol...I am just glad it is a hoax.
Had you bothered to check with Snopes then you would have found it to be False.
There's a reason why the Founders wanted us armed, and questions like this would only be proof of their wisdom.
;-/
Wow. That was a short editorial compared to the first one.... LOL.
It’s alright... us gun owners need not fight among ourselves and need to support each other. Thanks for posting and thanks for revealing the truth... THE END! :)
