Trying KSM in NYC: The Coming Catastrophe

EXCERPT

(John Yoo, author of Crisis and Command and a former official in the Bush Justice Department)

The Constitution requires that we have an open public trial for any criminal defendant tried by our government, and one of the rights that every defendant has is to force a government to open up its files and provide all the information it has on the defendant. This is going to be terrible for our efforts against al-Qaeda because we will have to explain, for example, how we knew where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was, how we were able to intercept his cell phone calls, how we were able to read his e-mails, and how we captured him. All of this is going to have to be made public.

Where is the resolution from Congress (binding or non-binding) opposing this idiocy? I would like each Congressman and Senator to go on record with their position on this. Particularly those who think it is a good idea.

Can this be stopped? I see no way they get a conviction. Besides, this trial will put our soldiers at greater risk than they face now.

If we have a terrorist attack in NYC during these trials, that will be a huge catastrophe for Obama and Holder. They are finished. I still find it hard to believe that they would let their ideological fervor lead them to such a huge risk—and for so little reward. AQ must be salivating.

There are only 2 possible explanations for the 0bama/Holder decision re civil trials. Either they are acting on deliberately treasonous motives, or they are driven by Leftist dogma so extreme and unrealistic (as is every aspect of Leftism anyway) as to be devoid of any shred of common sense. Considering how legalistically skilled and cunning this administration is, I favor the first explanation. This is a crippling blow to American security by a commie elite which hates everything about our country.

Chicago is known as the Second City.

Only way it becomes the First City is to eliminate the city that is #1.

0bama and Holder are painting a large bullseye on NYC.

The saying is that even a stopped clock is right twice a day, but the ‘bama’s batting average isn’t even that good. And these are only the miscalculations that we know about. What sort of diplomatic and national security screw ups are happening behind closed doors? How much trouble is America REALLY in?

Los Angeles is actually second in population...
That having been said, it is unfortunate that this has to play out this way, but I think there is not much to do but sit at watch, and God forbid, something happens... Then some of those `swing voters` will be given the ultimate lesson, and realize that a vote for Dems is a vote for (fill in the blank)...

I wish KSM would assert his right to a speedy trial.

This trial is nothing more than an attempt to gain precedence in a court of law for the future prosecution of members of the Bush administration for their techniques to get info from terrorists. Either that or they hope the case gets defeated on the grounds of unlawful interrogation so the Obama rats can have another venue to blame Bush.

Even if the government is somehow able to avoid revealing national secrets, and there are no terror attacks during the event, and the judge refuses to allow the defense to use the trial as a propaganda pulpit, it will still be a catastrophe.

The trial will take months and require extraordinary security measures which will stifle commerce and movement in New York- inconveniencing many residents and visitors and causing a huge hit to the tourist business. I lived in Pittsburgh during the G20 event last fall- fortunately it was brief but it really put a damper on transportation and activities here. This will presumably be a lot more restrictive.

The trial of the 911 murderers will be the nail in the coffin for Obama. This event will remove all pretense of what Liberals stand for. Picture for a minute five defendants, ten trial lawyers and aides in the front of a court room that is out of control. Picture this every day for months on the front page of your newspaper and the lead story nigh after night on television. America being vilified day after day by despicable lawyers defending equally despicable clients will make everyone regret giving the reins of power to liberal ideologues. Obama will set the Democratic party back a generation and that is if the trial goes off without any related terrorist activity.

This circus will show that the security of this country must never be entrusted to community activists and college professors.
