With the nation still mired in a deep recession that has millions of Americans experiencing economic ruin, the Obama administration marked Barack Obama's one-year anniversary as president by displaying a photograph of First Lady Michelle Obama wearing a $2,763 designer coat as the 'White House photo of the day' on the front page of WhiteHouse.gov.

Nola Weinstein, Fashion Editor for Glam.com noted that Michelle Obama was wearing a "mat lurex Moschino coat with a matching cap sleeve dress from the brand's Pre-Spring 2010 collection."

Sharon Haver at FocusOnStyle.com gushed over the outfit, calling it "very Camelot-ish".

Haver noted that Moschino sent out a copy of the White House photo with the bragging caption:

Moschino is pleased to announce that First Lady Michelle Obama wore a mat lurex Moschino coat with a matching cap sleeve dress while celebrating the year anniversary of the inauguration at the White House.

Freeper maggief discovered the coat at Net-A-Porter.com via polyvore.com

The Obama's are not shy about lavishly spending exhorbitant amounts money on themselves in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression.

The First Couple took a ten-day Hawaii vacation over Christmas and New Year's where they stayed at a $4000 per day $8.9 million estate. Michelle Obama was photographed wearing $635 per pair shoes while out for dinner in Hawaii.

A recent study of five pairs of footwear worn by Michelle Obama shows an average price of $700 per pair.

It could not be readily determined how much the matching dress for the $2763 Moschino coat is selling for.

A woman lucky enough to have a job in this economy that pays the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour would have to work nearly 380 hours without taxes withheld to be able to afford Michelle Obama's Moschino coat seen on the front page of the White House Web site as the Obama's photo of the day.

She deserves to be able to blow a little dough.

She works darn hard, and she is frugal in ways that offset the hideous coat.

Look at all them Vega tables she raised.

I guess she yam what she yam.
And she has really well toned arms...

My grandmother used to wear a coat that look similar to that. Only she bought it at the five and dime for about 6 bucks.

I should go through my wife’s older wardrobe, I’m sure I can find so old crap she doesn’t wear any more and sell it to Michelle for 2 to 3 k a pop. We’ll just call it my Stimulus Package.

Obama makes what $370,000 a year as President and was flat broke about 6 years ago so where is all of this money coming from? he didn’t sell that many books to have the money to spend like this!

ROFL!!! Quote of the day, MY! (maybe it WAS an oven mitt!)
Or...she can recycle it as a set of oven mitts!

If only that gal could buy herself some good taste, she
wouldn’t always look like a fool in her clothes!

I believe that...this looks like something my grandmother would wear. Whoever is picking out her clothes needs to re-think the trends.

I saw MAYBE two outfits that were not completely disgustingly ugly!

$2,763?

Did they hit her in the head?
Because they sure did rob her, er, us...again.

Don't you suppose that some of these designers “donate” these outfits simply for the free advertising they get when the First Frump wears them. I remember when Nancy Reagan caught all kinds of hell from the press because designers gave her suits and gowns seen in public and were the recipients of the publicity/advertising that came with it.
That said, the majority of the outfits Nancy wore were stylish for her age and build..She was always turned out well. Same for Laura Bush. The First Frump always looks like the things she wears don't fit well, has to have the boob belt or those too small twin set sweaters. She has no sense of style and like her narcissistic husband no one most likely can tell her anything.

I'm no fashion guru, but I used to be a bookeeper for a place that celebs bought clothes in L.A. Johnny Carson, Loretta Switt, Sidney Potier, etc, etc. Bev Hills.

That jacket is the worst piece of distorted cloth I've ever seen. Horrible, imo. We never would have carried it. And there's no way it cost more than $20 bucks; $80 on the high side.
