Using the US Census Bureau's 2008 MA population estimate of 6,497,967 (total) - 1,429,553 (poulation under 18 years) = 5,068,414 MA voting age population (VAP)

Then doing some quick calculations from API's MA vote count http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/elections/2010/by_county/MA_US_Senate_0119.html?SITE=AP&SECTION=POLITICS
We get: 44% of MA total population voted
Brown - 1,168,107 votes, 52% of voters, 23% of MA VAP
Coakley - 1,058,682, 47% of votes, 18.6% of MA VAP
Kennedy - 22,237, 1% of votes, 0.004% of MA VAP

What a sad comment on how much many value our freedoms.
Kennedy - 22,237, 1% of votes, 0.004% of MA VAP ???????
The dead voting for the dead?....................
There are also a chunk of the voting age population who are ineligible to vote because they are not citizens or because they are felons.
Any polls in how many dead and illegal people voted? I’m sure the margin between the two candidates was even further than reported.
That was some other (but very much alive) Kennedy running as a Libertarian.
“There are also a chunk of the voting age population who are ineligible to vote because they are not citizens or because they are felons.”
Not if the dim bulbs keep control of the senate and house.
You bet that the Obama administration, the unions and Acorn will be thinking of ways to steal the next election back from Brown.
So the Brown supporters better be prepared.
Now is the time for brown supporters to get all of the dead, imaginary and people who no longer live in Mass purged from the polls.
It seems that we are always looking at the last election instead making sure the voter roles are clean before the next election.
The Tea Party people everywhere should be using the time we have now to get the voter roles cleaned up from all the ACORN fraud.
Total Dem Rep 2006: 2165490 1500738 661532 2008: 3052135 1894067 1105908 2010: 2249026 1058682 1168107 73% 56% 106% Scott Brown, in an off-year special election in a snowstorm, got more votes than John McCain in a 2008 presidential election. And the turnout was 73% of the presidential election turnout. Turnout was higher than the 2006 regular election -- of course, Kennedy was a shoo-in, but this was a special election in january in a snowstorm.
On top of that, Democrats in my family were getting up to ten calls a day from Coakley and her stooges (i.e. Clinton, Obama, Kerry) urging them to vote to combat the "right wing conspiracy" that was being launched against Coakley.
For those not from this state, you cannot even begin to imagine the panic that the Democrats had in the final days and the depths to which they descended to spread misinformation about Scott Brown.
This did have a very significant effect on the race as many thousands of voters (who were indifferent about Coakley) were scared to the polls to fight off what was being touted as "Bush/Cheney II".
Fortunately, Brown was able to overcome all of that but he was definitely damaged to some extent.
What's even more encouraging about the fact that Brown was still able win despite a high turnout is that in the suburbs he heavily campaigned in, he consistently got 60-70% of the vote which means that Brown made a big impact in the towns that got to know him. Due to the short duration of the campaign, there are many untapped areas of Massachusetts that Brown never made it out to and thus are ripe for future GOP candidate to mine for votes.
The point of saying this is that the conversion of Massachusetts from blue to red is still a work in progress but we have laid a solid foundation for future growth. The "Brown towns" (towns which Brown carried by wide margins) are that base. Let's expand on this base for future elections.
I was getting as much “Brown” calls as “Coakley” calls.
They were wasting their time calling in my area. The results show low voter turnout in minority districts. Coakley couldn’t get them to the polls.
2006 was the election for Governor and other state Constitutional offices, including Attorney-General.
Do you know of any place to get the number of registered voters listed by town? I’d really like to see a map or list of voter turnout.
I think the key to winning this race was that the low income and minority voters didn’t come to the polls.
650,000 of those voters are dead or moved and don’t forget that we have many prisons and mental hospitals that house those that are unable or incapable of voting. Don’t forget those that are off at college that were unable to get their absentee ballots counted yet. My son was one of them, although he did vote! Oh yeah, add in military personnel or those that are in the hospital by no fault of theirs.
Our turn-out was huge!
Oh and yes you are correct. Look at Boston, Brockton, Fall River, New Bedford and Springfield. As well as other heavy minority cities.
Thanks, I’ve seen that map, but it not quite what I’m looking for.
I’d like to find a list of the number of registered voters per town. This can then be used to see what percentage turnout for the vote each town had. Anyone know where such a list can be found?
Below the map there is a list of all towns. The third column has the % turnout for each town.
Thanks! Somehow I didn’t see that column!
Some of those are really telling...Fall River and Lynn at 38% turnout, Boston at 43%.
If Boston had higher turnout, Coakhead could have gotten another 100k votes.
