FBI Broke Law For Years In Phone Record Searches
The Washington Post ^ | 1/19/10 | John Solomon & Carrie Johnson

The FBI illegally collected more than 2,000 U.S. telephone call records between 2002 and 2006 by invoking terrorism emergencies that did not exist or simply persuading phone companies to provide records, according to internal bureau memos and interviews. FBI officials issued approvals after the fact to justify their actions.

E-mails obtained by The Washington Post detail how counterterrorism officials inside FBI headquarters did not follow their own procedures that were put in place to protect civil liberties. The stream of urgent requests for phone records also overwhelmed the FBI communications analysis unit with work that ultimately was not connected to imminent threats.

A Justice Department inspector general's report due out this month is expected to conclude that the FBI frequently violated the law with its emergency requests, bureau officials confirmed....

The Bush/FBI/CTU has to be transparent at all times, but Obama has 150+ czars who are not?

Talk about grasping at ‘Bush’ straws...

We have the Congress of the United States failing to abide by the Constitution. We have a President who will not show his Birth Certificate to prove he is a legitimately seated President, we have a Supreme Court Justice who swore him in without checking, and now we expect the FBI to obey the rules?

The FBI is under the jurisdiction of Eric Holder who turned loose convicted criminals who blocked a polling place and will not answer the inquiries of a United States Senator about it.

We have a tax cheat running Ways and Means ,the Committee that taxes us all.

What rules? There are no rules in the Obma administration.

Once again, Obama is going after those that violated the civil rights of terrorists.

Whose civil liberties were violated? Murdering terrorist wannabees don't need nor deserve civil liberties, that's why they prosecute them.

How many innocent citizens were tortured or even inconvenienced by the FBI?

How many terrorist attacks were thwarted by this surveillance?

What the hell did the WAPO do to keep us safe and how many terrorists did they stop?

So many questions the Anti-American "media" needs to answer.

But don't bother presturds, we'll find out the answers despite your obfuscation.

You were doing fine until you said this:
we have a Supreme Court Justice who swore him in without checking
It's not the role of the Chief Justice to 'check' anything. Plus 'he' nor SCOTUS as a whole has the Constitutional authority to do any 'checking'.

A Justice Department inspector general’s report due out this month
is expected to conclude that the FBI frequently violated the law
with its emergency requests,...

At least the Washington Post and their butt-buddies at the NYTimes,
LATimes, etc. are consistent.

In their disdain for the term “A man’s gotta’ do what a man’s
gotta do.”

I’ve mixed emotions at this report: sounds like an Eric Holder
sliming of the Dubya years...and provides some thought that Jack Bauer
isn’t just a TV-series character.

NPR and PBS will be confused: they laud the approach that the FBI,
not the CIA or other “dark” units should handle investigations
of terrorism.
Now the FBI has been tainted as well.

I disagree.

It is the responsibility of any man who stands and administers any oath of office to be certain the person taking that oath is legitimately entitled to be taking that oath.

If there is any question in his mind he should investigate that question.
IMO ,The Supreme Court used legal tricks and subterfuge to find no one had standing to question Obama, when the facts are that every American has that standing.

I have no further respect for the Supreme Court or it’s Justices who are so cowardly they refuse standing to everyone and look the other way as a Usurper take command of our country.

I don't think a justice of the peace anywhere in the country would marry two people based merely on their verbal assurance that they had a marriage license.
