Amid the rash of appeals for Haiti donations has come a call from one of the most prominent voices on the American right for people to hang on to their cash because Barack Obama might steal it.
Rush Limbaugh, the most popular radio talkshow host, who is sometimes described as the real leader of the Republican party, says Americans should not give a penny to a population struggling for survival after the earthquake.
Limbaugh agreed with a caller suspicious that the White House website was being used to direct funds to the American Red Cross. "Would you trust the money's gonna go to Haiti?" the caller asked. Limbaugh then said Obama was exploiting the disaster for political ends.
"This [the earthquake] will play right into Obama's hands," said Limbaugh. "He's humanitarian, compassionate. They'll use this to burnish their, shall we say, credibility with the black community both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in this country. This is made to order for them."
Limbaugh also warned Americans against donating money. "Besides, we've already donated to Haiti. It's called the US income tax," he said.

However, he never said that.
He said not to send it to the .gov website. Rather send it to private organizations helping Haiti.
Did you even bother to listen to what Rush said?
This is a lie. Rush said to donate directly to the Red Cross and others, just not to send the money through whitehouse.gov cause he didn’t trust them.
Didn’t Rush himself already clarify this? He wasn’t telling people not to contribute to a charity for Haiti, but to be selective and choose the charity carefully ...
Rush is (of course) right. Trusting the White House (website or anything else associated with it) to do anything is foolish.
The title of the article shows the Blatant Liberal Bias. Rush didn’t say NOT to donate to help the people of Haiti. He said not to do so via the White House website.
Most people won't bother to check it out though (including some FReepers apparently), so it will achieve its purpose.
Conservatives don’t look bad....since REAL conservatives actually listen to Rush’s show, and don’t fall for leftwing propaganda.
Who care what communists in England think?
SURE it looks bad ... when you have HALF the STORY.... I was listening to the show.. and the slam was NOBAMA not Haiti..
WHAT IS IT WITH FREEPERS this last Month or so... everyone going off Half Cocked ... sounding more like the Scum from DAILY KOOKS or the DUMMIES Underbrained.
Well if Rush had advocated Not giving they might have a point.
but he is talking about the GOV stealing peoples donations.
If he didn’t have a point WHY is the White House bunch making it clear that the donations are going to the Red Cross.
As the second poster said,Rush didn’t say this. Why in the world would you post something from the far left Guardian as truth without checking it out.
LOL!
Yeah, since I don’t listen to Rush, I guess I am not a Conservative.
If you listened to what Rush said, he said not to donate through the White House website and to instead donate via your church or other legitimate charitable organization. Get your facts straight before you repost leftist propaganda.
He simply said don’t give through the White House. He believes the private charities are better. He did not say don’t donate. Geez.
I actually listen to Rush, and he did not say to donate. He said not to use the White House site.
It is likely that Rush Limbaugh will donate more to Haiti than all his detractors combined, and will do so without a press release.
You are a clueless dolt.
And what "this" is, is the liberal news media not telling the whole story in order to make political plays from people's deaths. This is not the full story as Limbaugh encouraged people to give to private charities because they are better run and there's more of a chance to get more of the money to the people who need it.
