Haiti-born rapper Wyclef Jean has come under fire regarding the financial administration of his charity.
Jean, 37, has been a celebrity face of the disaster and has been pleading for donations to his Yele Haiti Foundation.
But an investigation into the organisation has raised questions about the distribution of funds and accounting practices.
Financial records indicate Jean and his business partner Jerry Duplessis have been paid $443,000 by the charity, The Smoking Gun reports.
And despite operating for 12 years, the foundation reportedly only filed its first tax returns last year providing records for just three calendar years in 2005, '06 and '07.

This is the genius who was on Fox the other night asking Pres. Obama to “declare a state of emergency” in Haiti. Um, hellooooo....too much ganja.
Unreal and typical. I wonder how much GW Bush’s “step brother” Bill Clinton has skimmed of AIDS money and other money. Hundreds of millions.
All the tsunami money and Live Aid & 8 money was ripped off.
Send Haiti canned food, condoms and bibles.
The left, Obama and Haiti want to make Haiti a state.
We can help, provide some aid but Haiti is the Haitians problem.
You can’t go wrong with The Salvation Army.
Does this actually surprise anyone?
I heard this second or third hand, so I don't want to misrepresent, but I think some big shot said, "People want to send water and blankets, but what they really need to send is just cash".
Sorry. I know a lot of people really mean well, but I learned long ago to be very cautious about sending cash to corrupt third world countries. There are good Christian charities that really will use the money wisely -- but there is no way I would send money to any non-Christian charity for an event like this.
Very true. I’ve been hearing about Haiti all my life. My son will hear about it all of his too, I’m sure.
Yep, sending cash is lining pockets...not helping folks. I go through either Nazarene Compassionate Ministries or the Red Cross.

The big shot you quoted, (’just send cash’) was none other than George W. Bush. It rankled me greatly to hear that, even though I’ve never had any illusions about “W”.
Condoms?
Having kids is NOT their problematic issue. An earthquake, voodoo, grinding poverty and corruption - those things are their problems. Condoms won’t solve any of those.
The major disaster-relief organizations - the ones that are organized and financially open, like Salvation Army, Caritas, and denominational ministries - already have supplies and trained people in the Caribbean because they do hurricane-relief every summer. They need money to replace what they lost in the earthquake and for additional food, water, medicine, and so on.
Sending money to the government of Haiti or to a rap-music organization is less use than setting the cash on fire for luck.
That’s why I didn’t donate through his charity. I gave a little money through Red Cross. Sprinkles cupcakes in Dallas had a buy red velvet cupcakes and all money goes to Red Cross. My son ate em up! They are very good so I guess we gave double to Red Cross, lol. I trust Red Cross, Salvation Army. There are several other private charities we like. Compassion International is good. I know several that gave to them. I’d rather trust a Christian organization like Compassion then Wyclef Jean!
The anti-life folks love to push condoms and abortion during disasters.
That was George Bush at yesterday's press conference. My answer, "Fat chance."
Jesus said the poor will always be among us.
“Send Haiti canned food, condoms and bibles.”
How about the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and a copy of the Federalist Papers? (And maybe alot of rope and ammunition???)
Sending money to the government is less use than setting the cash on fire for luck.
It’s probably about the same except the government would
use the money sent them to further enslave us, where as
burning the money would at least keep us warm.
