PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- A peacekeeping force of up to 800 Canadian troops is preparing for deployment that appears imminent to Haiti, to assist in maintaining security in the face of increasing violence, and looting on the island nation.
The troops, mostly from Valcartier, Que., and equipment would join an increasing international force -- including more than 3,000 American marines -- that is already on the scene or en route.
Engineering units, from Gagetown N.B., 60 vehicles, a headquarters and support elements, including medical staff, are part of the Canadian contingent.
While the military would not confirm the peacekeeping initiative, Lt.-Col. Jay H. Janzen, a senior military public affairs officer, said in a written statement Friday: "The army is quickly generating a robust and agile land force capability to help with the relief effort in Haiti."

(((.)))
I goofed on the title- should read “Peacekeepers prepare for deployment to Haiti”.
I hope they are well armed as it will go off big tiime over there soon.
The place was a hole of crime, death, gangs, drugs, guns and life was cheap before this so I just hope that the military are well armed to defend themselves as the gangs there will not be looking to take over areas from other gangs
But remember who sent them, and the BS rules of engagements they're tied down with.
Pray for our troops.
I got to work with the 82nd in Italy when I was in the military and they were a good set of guys.
as for the ROE, , well he’s giving constitutional rights to terrorist, postponing charges, letting black racist off when they were caught outside a voting station .
yet he is charging navy seals, CIA
so anything could happen with the ROE.
AFAIK most of the troops are from Brazil, and they do intend to stay.
Peace keepers are actually people who make (force) people behave peaceably.
Notice the need for the use of the word "force".
Thanks for the ping, Squawk 8888.
