Derek Dooley will be the next head coach at Tennessee, according to published reports.
Dooley has been head coach at Louisiana Tech the past three seasons, going 17-20. He has just one winning season: 8-5 in 2008, which saw the Bulldogs go to the Independence Bowl.

Dooley emerged as the top candidate after Tennessees overtures to Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and Duke head coach David Cutcliffe were spurned.

Darn it! I was hopping that Fulmer would come back!
Go GATORS!!!
The Vols seemes to have this fetish for hiring the sons of famous coaches with losing records. With the Mark Richt being on the hot seat at UGA will Dooley bide his time in TN then jilt them for UGA.
I wonder how UGA fans are going to feel about Vince Dooley’s son coaching UT?
I was impressed with how he coached the game against Auburn last season. While Auburn won (for which this Auburn fan is thankful), Dooley did the most with what he had.
Rest of the SEC had better watch out.
Richt is not on the hot-seat execpt with the insane fans that think the Dawgs should be playing the national championship game every year.
As for Dooley, he probably did as much at LA Tech as anyone could. It’s a smaller school that insists on playing larger programs.
Richt would have been on the hot seat if he’d kept his defensive coordinator. As it is, he’s bought a couple of years.
I thought they were talking about Vince. I guess he’s going to stay with the Kennesaw State program.
I don’t know if this is a good hire for Tenn., for sure he is way down on their preferred list. Dooley really doesn’t have the record to make you go wow. I am not sure there is even remotely enough evidence for you to forewarn the SEC on their impending doom with this hire.
Isn’t Tennessee under investigation for some of the shenanigans pulled by Kiffen?
Heard this AM that Noel Devine will be back with the Mountaineers next season. Word is that Dion Sanders told him that right now, his size would be against him in the draft and the best he could hope for would be a 4th round.
As it stands, WVU will have 18 returning players (9-O, 9-D), the most in the Big East.
The bottom line is can he recruit. Of course that was the first question that was asked about Urban Meyer when UF hired him from Utah. Well all you have to do is look at the latest Rivals Recruiting Rankings to get the answer to that question.
Yeah, and so is USC.
Ron Zook could recruit as well. Bill Callahan could recruit. Charlie Weis could recruit.
He had a very good presser tonight. He made points by extolling the Tennessee tradition - said he was not asking for trust, that he would earn that. Grateful and humbled to be in the SEC. Respectful of the coaches and other programs. Lots of love for Saban.
Looks like we got the anti-Kiffin.
And, his wife is not hard to look at either. And he has a kid named Peyton.
I'm going to have a hard time 'hating' Tenn now, lol. Roll TIDE ROLL!
Yeah Vanderbilt is in trouble now.
We know “hate” is a relative term in the SEC. Most of us will pull for any SEC team when we step outside the conference.
Most of us “casual” fans had never heard of Derek Dooley before yesterday. From what I’m seeing on the boards, it is a very popular hire from those who saw him last night.
He did a great job at his presser and I hope to see him do well.. just not well enough to beat Alabama of course, lol! I do pull for the SEC outside conference and it is better for our conference when teams aren't reeling from coaching problems.
