.."Riding a wave of opposition to Democratic health-care reform, GOP upstart Scott Brown is leading in the U.S. Senate race, raising the odds of a historic upset that would reverberate all the way to the White House, a new poll shows.
Although Browns 4-point lead over Democrat Martha Coakley is within the Suffolk University/7News surveys margin of error, the underdogs position at the top of the results stunned even pollster David Paleologos.
Its a Brown-out, said Paleologos, director of Suffolks Political Research Center. Its a massive change in the political landscape.
The poll shows Brown, a state senator from Wrentham, besting Coakley, the states attorney general, by 50 percent to 46 percent, the first major survey to show Brown in the lead. Unenrolled long-shot Joseph L. Kennedy, an information technology executive with no relation to the famous family, gets 3 percent of the vote. Only 1 percent of voters were undecided.
Paleologos said bellweather models show high numbers of independent voters turning out on election day, which benefits Brown, who has 65 percent of that bloc compared to Coakleys 30 percent. Kennedy earns just 3 percent of the independent vote, and 1 percent are undecided.
Given the 4.4-point margin of error, the poll shows Coakley could win the race, Paleologos said. But if Browns momentum holds, he is poised to succeed the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy - and to halt health-care reform, the issue the late senator dubbed the cause of my life....

RE: “If its close, and it looks like they stole it, this will be a legal circus of the utmost proportions...it may rival FL in 2000. Hanging chads anyone?”
******************
Oh NO, not that! I don’t think I can take that type of fiasco again. Whatever happened to that wall-eyed guy with the ‘loop’ staring at the ‘hanging chads?’
Coakley is a charmless, mean woman who thinks it beneath her to actually work for this seat.
To Mass Freepers, heck if you live anywhere in New England.....

I spoke with a man who hasn’t voted in the last 24 years because in this state, he figured it would never matter.
He voted early absentee, and is as giddy as a girl.
Agree a Rasmussen would be more credible.
Hey, maybe the Rats are going to throw it to Brown so healthcare gets blocked and all the rest of the Rat Senators and Representatives up for election can go win reelection and keep the Rats in control. Martha would just take one for the team...
Naw.
there will be enough ‘voters’ who will think that he is a relative of the Kennedys...(which he is not)...which is great because he will then siphon more votes from Maaatha.
A woman I know said the same thing about herself to me today. It's thrilling, because Brown is the opposite of Obama--he doesn't have that spit and polish bullshit. His style is that he is genuine.
It's sad how rare that is, but so thrilling when you've got the real thing.
I wish the non-MA folks here could hear him on Howie Carr's radio show. Carr talks to him daily, and the guy just talks like a human being. He doesn't dodge even tough questions and doesn't fumble to find what variety of spin will probably hold off the questioner. He just answers the question. He is shocking in his directness.
yes, I could believe it....
there must be at least three Dem senators who would refuse to allow a vote on HealthCare until the new senator is seated...I am demanding that that occur, no matter WHO is elected...the Placeholder should not be allowed to vote on this matter. “The Kennedy Seat”...feh!
The wider the margin, the harder it will be to get away with election hijinks - which the dims will undoubtedly pull.
Hello 2009-11-22
I think you are mistaken. I have family in Mass. and am in the loop w/ the dynamics in the state. Coakly is going down. obummer’s actions are a good indicators — he’s not showing up!
I predict Brown wins (let’s see, what was it?) 59% to 41%

whack that poll on the right side, while you’re there....
good ol’ Boston Herald...maybe I’ll order it delivered.
Darkwolf - I honestly can’t believe the lack of Coakley signs, etc - I really think they thought they were just entitled to this............all my lib in laws, neighbors are voting for Brown.
I hate to say this but...it’s the Irish factor....Obama is not Clinton.
I just checked: this is the third poll by this group in this race - the last two ( one only a month ago, had the dem up by 30 points. If this poll has a bias, it’s a dem bias. This poll show a 35 point switch in one month.
Minnesota:The Colman/ franken affair. Never trust a lib sec. of state.
I know one of the signs was in the Florence Barber Shop. Stopped in for a haircut and Mike the owner was finding out the number of Brown supporters out there.
Boston Glob will stick with the Haiti story until they can get their vipers’ venom up...

Haha - yeah Northampton - she’s got the lesbo vote tied up alright!
Good point about the Kerry / Edwards stickers.
Really most folks here have excellant medical plans and any Obama is offering is ten steps backwards - I think Brown wins in a LANDSLIDE!
Thanks...I know that...I was joking with someone...
