What Do Sarah Palin and Jesus Christ Have In Common? (Whose side is Red State on, anyway?)
Red State ^ | 14 Jan 2010 | Erick Erickson

I don’t know what it is about Sarah Palin that sets people off, but there is very little in between. The reaction people have to Sarah Palin is very much the reaction many people have to Jesus — both offend and disgust the secular values of some and with others failing to embrace either sends you straight to hell. Judging by my conversation with Governor Palin a few weeks ago when I asked her why the left has more compassion for Al Qaeda than for conservative women and minorities, I think she gets it and finds some humor in it.

--snip--

I understand that a great many of Palin’s supporters, myself included, have felt on the defensive for a while. The media genuinely hates this woman. The left is more revolted by Palin than they ever were by Bush.

I get that.

But I also get that there are Republicans who like — even love — Sarah Palin who think some of her handlers might not give her the best of advice or think she should or should not do one thing or another. And i’m finding, both from personal experience and the experience of friends, that when those points are brought up, the person raising the point is often inappropriately attacked as a Palin hater.

Like I said before, you really don’t understand Palin supporters.

I will not vote for Mitt under any circumstance, and will either stay home or go 3rd Party if he is the GOP standard bearer. I suspect that I will not be alone.

Well, 'it's my way or the highway' will not help rescue America; should Sarah - for whatever reason; if only by her own choice - not be a 2012 candidate.

Well, if your sentiments are same as offered in post 42; then think I do; and it goes to my starting point and is what I fear.

What is wrong about refusing to vote for Mitt Romney?

What is wrong about refusing to vote for Mitt Romney?

What if Sarah chooses not to run? A 'no' vote for Repub candidate; is a YES vote for Obama,Inc. Who knows; what is in store; what if Scott Brown wins in Massachusetts and he rises to the challenge for 2012? John Thune's name has been mentioned; Eric Cantor. . .Jindal etc/et al.

That said; is Mitt really an American monster? He is after all - no matter how you parse in Repub politics - a patriotic and altruistic American (too bad, we have to even appreciate that; but of course, Obama has invited that category; which heretofore was a 'given' up until recently). He supports our Constitution; our Military and their goals; and he lives a life that embodies Christian values. (Yes, I KNOW he changed his mind on abortion; and Sarah Palin did too, in a manner of speaking and by her own more personal admission; should we stretch it. She also has said it is a 'State's Rights issue.)

And, yes, Massachusetts health care not a model for America; the problems are acknowledged; at least, Mitt is in a position to learn from mistakes made. . .and from those made by State, Democrat Legislature. . .)

Anyway; am not here to cheer for Mitt; only to warn that a too narrow focus may come to bite the Repub Party, big time; and that would be a disaster for America and for a never-ending future to come.

The question was about not voting for Romney, just as post 32 was, don't start your BS to get off topic, Virginia Ridgerunner only said Mitt Romney.

And what planet do you live on that you think that the scum bag Mitt Romney is these things? Mitt Romney is none of those things, he is the opposite of those things

Yesterday, both Sarah and Glenn talked about “waiting for a George Washington.”

If Sarah decides not to run, then I have faith we will find our reluctant George Washington and it just might be in the person of Doctor Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who has NO interest in running for president. In fact, he is up for reelection this year, and he has already promised that if he's reelected, his second senatorial term will also be his last.

That is impossible, the Obama people that worship Obama are the non religious and empty, Governor Palin's supporters are not those people.

Oh, agree with you on that. And Obama is as much of a fraud and is inauthentic; as Sara is genuine and 'authentic'.

That said; if you read, even here, between the lines; you hear that Sarah is 'the ONE' - NO one else will/can do and 'feet walking' away from Repub Party; if she is not candidate. We heard the same from Obama supporters while he prepared to run. . .and as he entered the White House; and we still hear it.

Just saying, while it may be different; the rightious conclusions can be the same. Not saying they are yet, in 'toto'; but don't want to get close to that.

No offense and not to single you out specifically, but I'm beginning to resent these kinds of "party first" admonitions that I hear over and over again on this forum. I've been a faithful down-the-line GOP voter since 1968.

I'm done with that. No more RINOs. I want an inspirational conservative leader that I can trust to get us out of this mess. The party establishment would be well-advised to provide one for me if they want my vote. None of the names you mention currently excites me.

Especially Mitt Romney.

... Obama and Palin were, to many people, empty vessels into which people poured their hopes and dreams without really knowing anything about either.

I don't think so. Obama was to some extent an empty vessel, but not as much as some people think. Much was known about his radical views. But the public thought well I am tired of the GOP after 8 years as typically happens and if I vote for this nice young black man surely the race professionals will necessarily have to back off. Not to mention the GOP was running a grouchy old man. This is why the Cambridge cop fiasco hurt Obama so badly. Not only we the race pros not cooling the temperature of race baiting, but there was Obama race baiting.

Palin also was NOT an empty vessel. She was less on than Obama. People were drawn to her as an attractive, out spoken conservative. The US is and always has been a center right country in part because people are naturally conservative. So when an articulate, bright, outgoing conservative comes along people are attracted to them. People were drawn to Palin because she had the conviction of her views on abortion, she had a big family, she was pro energy development, she was authentically religious, she was against big government, she was pro self reliance etc. Sure she might have had a few ex-H.Clinton supporters who were for her only because she was a woman, but for the most part it was her views and her style that attracted people.

So this essay is really just wrong on the face of it. But then the chattering class, conservative or liberal, has yet to get Palin. They seem to think she is not very smart, but as a guy paid for more than 25 years to evaluate how well students have done in economics classes, I can assure you Palin is smarter than any of the other three candidates in 2008 and was certainly smarter than the Dim nominess of 2000 and 2004.

Given that Romney is not a conservative, he's a non-starter, so there's no use wasting bandwidth on him...lol.

Seriously, let's talk about it, because he is not patriotic, he is not altruistic, he does not support the constitution, he does not support our military, and the guy has rejected Christianity and is a powerful leader within another religion.

Realize he is lifetime Mormon; and I suspect with many, this is more than 'HUGE'negtive and accounts for more than a bit of ill will.

And while I don't know him personally/sarc/ have seen nothing in his personal life; by way of his committment to his wife; family (and five boys who appear to share same strong family values) while giving example of strong moral core that contradicts Christian values; and in no way, insults Christian values. To say he does not support our Military is just wrong - or worse; criticisms offered that appear embedded in more 'bias' than fact.

This posting was not to speak to Mitt Romney; but rather, to simply comment on what could turn out to be a dangerous political 'tunnel vision' or just a 'fever' that many seem to be acquiring re Sarah (i.e. 'nothing/no one BUT Sarah - or I quit!'). Glenn Beck came close to bestowing a 'messianic veil' on Sarah - and he may have his own reasons - but fear that many may resonate to this level of rhetoric - if they have not yet.

Her “light” is just too bright to handle—

Hunt actually used one or two women in addition to a male model to achieve the "look" he wanted in the face.

This has always been a favorite of mine, and thought, given the "light" and Biblical women aspects of your post, that you might like to see it too.

God's grace to You and Yours....
