The number of newly laid-off workers requesting unemployment benefits rose more than expected last week as jobs remain scarce amid a sluggish economic recovery.
The Labor Department said Thursday new claims for unemployment insurance rose by 11,000 to a seasonally adjusted 444,000. Wall Street economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected an increase of only 3,000.

There’s that now expected word, “unexpected”. I feel so much better now.
Maybe pollsters should start assuming the exact opposite of what they think is true, and that way they won’t keep being surprised.
Unexpected.
But the overall conclusion is always predictable: Obama has turned this around, and things are getting better.
It's just gotta be true -- right?
nice how these “jobless” numbers don’t include FIVE MILLION, 300 HUNDRED THOUSAND folks collecting extended unemployment benefits paid by the feds
Nor workforce dropouts no longer collecting at all and living on very lean budgets
what’s the use of this number for calculating “unemployed”?
