Dr. Ruth takes honorary job in DC to help boost tourism with romance promotion

WASHINGTON January 13, 2010 (AP)

Tourism officials are enlisting psychosexual therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer to show off the playful side of the nation's capital and boost the local hospitality business.

Tourism officials say they're taking a cue from President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for their frequent date nights that have shown off D.C.'s restaurant and culture scene.

On Thursday, Dr. Ruth will be sworn in as the city's honorary secretary of the "Department of Love and Relationships." She'll help announce a new "stimulus plan" for the city's tourism business

In a smart world, they would have a side program for visitors to arrange for concealed carry during their visits.

The word "romance" is just about the opposite of what comes to mind when thinking of Dr. Ruth.

Considering the current state of Washington, I think her skills as an sniper in the IDF would be more useful that those as sex therapist.

The US government should slowly and methodically use eminent domain to buy up all of Washington, D.C. Having our nation’s capital surrounded by crime-ridden slum is embarrassing, especially when space for parks, memorials, and federal offices in D.C. is at a premium.

Once the city is wholly owned, most traffic can be replaced with public transportation, with just a few VIP vehicles permitted (required by the consular sections of other countries.) Heavy foot traffic areas can have “rolling sidewalks”, which are now extensively used in airport concourses. These move people at a much faster clip and prevent human traffic jams.

There would still be plenty of support businesses in the city, but they would all be leased concessionaires. The same with the Watergate hotel complex.

The end result would be that the flow of the public in to, and out of the city, would be increased. There would be much more “green space” for public gatherings. Much more room for monuments and memorials. Far less street crime and better security. No more D.C. city council or other civic malfeasance.

All told, Washington D.C. would again become a symbol of national pride, instead of a pearl in the middle of a cow flop.

DC has such a fine history in this the Wayne Hays-Gary Hart-Marion Berry-Barney Frank era.

Dr Ruth can start with the slogan...”DC, a place where cigars can be delivered with your pizza”.

Color me curious: What money will fund this “tourism” effort? City of DC? or District of DC (ie: funded by congress)?
