What's next, water pistols?
The Bronx is expanding its successful gun buyback program to include -- for the first time in the city -- BB and air guns, officials announced yesterday.
Although not normally lethal, BB and air guns sometimes are used by criminals to scare victims into thinking the weapons are conventional, deadly handguns.
People who surrender such weapons Jan. 23 at several churches in The Bronx will be given a $50 gift or cash card for each BB gun turned in, up to a $150 cap.
The churches will also accept regular guns.
BB guns retail for between $40 and $60.
Sponsors, including Best Buy, Target and the Westchester Merchants' Association, have donated 350 of the cards, for a total value of $17,000.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., speaking at a press conference, called the addition of the BB guns to the buyback program "a way for us to call upon the business community" to get weapons off the streets.

Just part of the propaganda campaign to demonize guns.

I recall some movie where John Candy pulled a gun on a guy. The guy said that’s only a BB gun. Candy said yeah, but it can create a serious welt, maybe an infection.

Hmm let's see....I bought a daisy 1911 style at Wal Mart for...20 bucks IIRC. Soooo...If I buy three that's $60 and when I turn them in I get $150 for a profit of $90.
LOL!

This article is factually wrong.
BB guns and airguns have always been accepted at these events. Whereas they used to get $20 cash, they now get a $50 giftcard. So there you go.

buyback program "a way for us to call upon the business community" to get weapons off the streets. They say getting guns off the streets will save lives, yet in 2009, we had two phenomina; 1. We saw the greatest amount of guns sold ever (millions extra) and 2. Per the FBI, violent crime and murder went down greatly.

They will try to do with guns..what they have done with tobacco..and are doing to alcohol. You see...the state..in order to justify its overreaching...has to prove it is virtuous. This deflects legitimate criticism of its powers...when it can point to these accomplishments.

They need to get armed robbers "off the streets"...by SHOOTING THEM if necessary.

Preacher, I’m turning in these red ryder bb-guns with the compass in the stock. I’m afraid I’ll shoot my eye out...

I have an old Daisy Model 102 BB gun, and if I shot a squirrel with it, from five feet away, the squirrel would probably die (from laughter). I wonder if the morons in the Bronx would give me $50 for it?
It doesn’t matter, cause I’m keeping it forever. It belonged to my Dad, and he had etched his name on the side. Memories are worth a whole lot more than 50 bucks.
Hey Bronx, here’s a novel idea. Try getting criminals off the street. Guns are not the problem, criminals are.
