US EVANGELICAL preacher Pat Robertson has blamed Haitians directly for the devastating earthquake, saying that the country "swore a pact to the devil'' at its creation. "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it,'' Robertson said on his Christian Broadcasting Network show The 700 Club.
The 80-year-old former presidential candidate said Haitians were originally "under the heel of the French".
"You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever.
"And they got together and swore a pact to the devil.
"They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story.

Voodoo practitioners cannot be Christian. They may call themselves Catholics but it is not Christianity. If the two co-exist, the Catholicism has been perverted to something it should not be.
I don’t follow or defend Robertson but the facts of Haiti are what they are.
God, Satan, and the Birth of Haiti
Of course, Haiti was and is blighted by the evils of an especially cruel form of slavery, a violent slave rebellion, a long and bitter war for independence, and ensuing generations of poverty, harsh misrule, corruption, violence, and voodoo.
WTF? A deal with the devil is now coming full circle from the Neapolianic era? Man, Robertson is f’ing nuts.
>>Most Voodoo practitioners are Catholics.<<
.
52% of American Catholic voters practice voodoo.
While I actually agree with Pat Robertson, he made a mistake not following the Biblical admonishment about casting pearls before swine.
No doubt- there are some bizarre voodoo practices there. (8 kids! Wooo Hooo!)
But that doesn’t let Robertson off the hook.
Yes, he is what we would have called a RINO's RINO in this day.
I have read/heard other Korean War vet Marine officers say much the same thing about Mister Robertson, but McCloskey's comment was the easiest to find.
.
People like Robertson do a disservice to Republicans and Conservatives. Many quote the stupid things he says and decry the party.
I think the GOP should have denounced him early and often to distance themselves from his comments.
>>Can nations turn away from God?<<

What kind of a question is that? All you have to do is look around in this country and in Europe and you’ll get the answer staring you in the face.
what do expect from a false teacher. so many years of the erroneous seed faith peddler. In America there is so many false teachers - Pat Robertson, Oral Roberts, Rick Warren, Benny Hinn, Marilyn Hickey, Roberts Liardon (homosexual) and fill in the blanks with many others
I don’t buy the pact with the devil as put forward by Pat Robertson, but, we must not forget about the practice of voodoo in the country. Further, it is worth contemplating why only this country and Canada prospered in the Western Hemisphere.
Not much of a refutation, just couldn’t locate the pig statue.
On the other hand, it would be impossible to prove the pact was never made.
On the third hand, by way of observation, Haiti’s history is some pretty strong circumstantial proof it happened. Especially when you consider that the Dominican Republic shares the same island.
I just saw an interview with Franklin Graham- he’s getting his group together and going down there tonight to help. His heart was aching for the Haitians and he had nothing but a sense of urgency and desire to help in his voice..
The contrast in character between Graham and Robertson could not have been greater.

“Voodoo practitioners cannot be Christian. They may call themselves Catholics but it is not Christianity. If the two co-exist, the Catholicism has been perverted to something it should not be.”
Interesting. There should only be one Christian Church.
Since there are hundreds of Christian sects, how do you tell which ones have gone to far into “perversion” to be called Christians? Who decides (on the earthly plane) the qualifications?
The famous Methodist Jim Jones comes to mind. Pat Robertson is a Christian? David Koresh? The Bostonians who burned and drowned witches? The Catholics who tortured “blasphemers”?
CINOs——Christians In Name Only?
It’s a problem for religions and political parties. Anyone can join, and hold any moral or political position and still claim they are Catholic, Christian, Democrat, Republican, etc. Pro-choice Catholics being a good example or the problem.
Did the Catholic Church look upon Martin Luthor’s followers as Christians? When Christians figure out who and what they really are, meaning they require only one sect of Christianity, I’ll consider rejoining, depending on the theology agreed upon.
Christians are a very confused group, imo. (I was raised Catholic, and went to Catholic school for 12 years.)
