Vanity | January 11, 2009 | Me

Posted on 01/11/2010 11:04:19 AM PST by St. Louis Conservative

State Sen Kim Hendren

State Sen Gilbert Baker

Tom Cox

Businessman Curtis Coleman

Out of these folks, who are the conservatives? Who can most easily defeat Lincoln in the general election?

Arkansas FReepers please weigh in here.

Strike RINOs first. Then we can think about the Canidates.

I don't have a clue and I live here.

We don't have any conservatives that I have seen or heard or even heard rumors. As far as I am concerned, I vote for who ever is not in office at the present time, preferably with a "R", but that can be problematic because they are all democrats.

Kim Hendren is already toast because of some perceived anti-Semitic remarks about Schumer. He has clinical foot in mouth disease and should probably retire.

Baker seems pretty consistent on Conservative issues. Nothing jumps out either way. Seems to be a career politician.

Cox seems pretty impressive, to the Right of Baker in issues like defense (maybe just his bluntness), however, concerned about some of his Health Care approaches (wants the feds to work with private insurance to create a guaranteed purchase policy).

I haven’t looked much at Coleman but scanning his issues page, he reads like a FReeper. However, he has many issues not listed that are important for a Senator such as Defense. He definitely looks like the best regarding Health Care.

I have known Curtis Coleman for over 30 years. He is a true conservative - and the best communicator among the entire group. He is not a career pol, but an entrepreneur. He is also a social conservative. Not a RHINO by any means.

I don't know him, never heard of him, so I can't and did not say he was a RINO, but after the primary, that will be the ballot choices.

It's the way things are here and it's actually worsened because the Arkansas Republican party has all but disappeared and frankly speaking, I have not seen them in the southeast part of the state in 15 years or more.

Do you know his defense/WOT position. That seemed to be the major area not covered on his issues page.

What about Conrad Reynolds? Called me the other night and seems to fit the bill. Retired veteran and businessman.

His bio is great but his issues page is light.

Curtis Colman is a Freeper’s Freeper. He’s very conservative, is not tainted by past politics and understands the plight of business in today’s environment. After spending 33 years in the Army, I can vouch for his total support for the military and our nation’s defense. Curtis is not out for himself, but for “us” and the USA.

Coleman has three outstanding advisors for the area of Defense. One was the G2 (two star) for “Stormin’ Norman” during Desert Storm - brilliant guy .. this man also served as a Military Attache in China - so he knows all the history and activities and policy issues in the Middle East as well as most of Asia. Another was also a two star and dealt extensively in Europe and was head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). The third was a Col that was Dean of the War College and was heavily involved in Kosovo. I suspect Coleman will have a very comprehensive understanding of the issues and pitfalls of not only the Defense Department and related Intel Agencies (from the US perspective) but also a clear understanding of what policies the US might need to have with regard to Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, North Korea, China, and Japan. I know that he has been working with them to develop some position papers - so I would expect you will see some come out soon on his web site.

I didn't mean to imply you thought he was a RINO (my bad). I was just making a statement of opinion on my part. I have been unimpressed by the GOP Party in Arkansas too. They have been weak most of my adult life. I suspect the reason you don't see them in the Southeast is the same reason you won’t see them in the Delta and Northeast very much eityer. Those areas are so heavily Democratic, they see those areas as “wasting ammo” - this is my opinion anyway. I was raised in the Northeast and I used to say the only way a Republican would get elected in District 1 was when we had enough Democratic funerals. My mom andstepdad were typical yellowdog Democrats. They hated everything the Democratic Party stood for, but hated the GOP becuase they felt they were suppose to. They almost disowned me when I admitted to voting for Reagan.

Yep....Lol...Roosevelt Democrats. They pass it on and they never learn. Even after Clintoon when many switched to independent, they then turned right around and backed The "0".

You are right about the GOP. They won't set foot here, and I'm not doing their work for them. I am not that much of a idiot. Sometimes the candidate will stop by, but without the advance set up needed for a good crowd, the visits have no effect at all. Nobody even knows they were here.

I am going to encourage Coleman to break that mold and spend time in SE, Delta, and NE AR. Would you be willing to help connect him to the other Freepers looking for a conservative candidate? I know he will meet with small groups in a face-to-face and explain his positions and answer questions.

I withdrew from the Arkansas group a few years back for some reasons I don't want to get into here, so I'm not the right guy to connect people together. I'm a lone wolf, so to speak.

What I'd like to see is the AR GOP. There was a time when the GOP or some GOP candidate would open up a temporary office here to distribute signs and the like but I have not seen one since 1990.

You might try the Arkansas board on FR. I have not posted there for years, but I assume it is still active. If you get any results, try to remember to ping me. I might be interested in meeting him.

I can add you to the Arkansas Ping List, which is all the freepers in Arkansas. I make a post about once a week here, depending on events.
